Inflation Will Loosen the Labor Market

People aren't working because many jobs just aren't worth the time and effort. However, inflation will just make people poorer and more desperate. Pretty soon many won't be able to afford to quit or pass up that shitty fast food/retail job. Even if you already work full time, you might need a second job. Your money just won't go as far. Sure inflation will hurt the elite on some level, but they are probably diversified enough and a tight labor market is what they really can't stand. The debt slaves are getting uppity.

Mocked by my recent panic attacks

Hi, first time posting here and long term follower. My work environment is very toxic since I started the new job almost one year ago. So at the beginning of January I was out for two weeks due to covid and when I came back I started having panic attacks when previously I didn't have them since college. They've gotten more progressive and prominent in the recent months (with the new job) to a point that I have to leave work (I work rotating shifts 1,2,3). I've only told about it to my superiors ( due to the severity of my job) and today I was told by a very close coworker of mine that most of the other coworkers and supervisors were mocking me for leaving work due to my panic attacks. They are starting to spread rumors of things that aren't true and I don't know what to…

Supervisor who wants to help his shop unionize.

I'm in management at a big box store in the US (so I'm using a throwaway account). I want to help the staff get paid better (we make shit money), become class-conscious, unionize, start shit, etc. but I can't get fired. I have to have this job to survive. I also don't want to be despised by people I work with if I can help it. The company is a Fortune 1000, big-ass corporation who fights any union drives to the death. What would you do?

Weird question, but do you actually work 37.5 or 40 hours? (Do you include lunch breaks in your schedule?)

Just something that I was wondering about. A few jobs that I had was 40 hours, but included in that 40 hours was lunch. So I was actually on the clock for 37.5 hours or I didn't have to clock out for lunch. In my current job, I'm at the work site for 9 total hours because it includes my 8 hours a day and an 1-hour break. I was just thinking about it when considering how much time I spend at work. I stayed after work to finish a project since I could work uninterrupted. I wanted to stay because I thought I was making time up, since I left early last week. There was some misunderstanding and I couldn't make up those hours any longer. Even though our pay period is 2 weeks long, I could only make up time during the same week. My manager asked me…

I’m reapplying to a job I had a few months ago but at a different store in the same district and they won’t rehire me at the position I once held.

I just wanted to get other peoples opinions on this as it irked me a bit when I saw my email. A few months ago I quit my job as a manager working for a fast food chain restaurant. Now, after I reapplied to a different store in the same district, they want to hire me at a lower position and “see how things go” which I don't feel great about. Should I hold my ground in regards to being hired on as a manager or just hope they'll “recertify” me to be a manager as I need the pay raise that comes with that position? EDIT: Thank you to everyone who gave advice! I have sent an email back asking in regards to pay and position and am waiting for a reply.

Stayed awake for 28 hours

Went into work as usual from 8-5pm and i was asked if i could do overtime at 8pm later that day. The task that i was doing at 8pm was meant to finish at 12AM but something went wrong (of course) and it ended up getting extended to 6AM in the morning where as this time my alarm went off to wake up (lol which i didn’t even manage to get at least 5 minutes of sleep). So i drove to work and started at 8am where as here it hit the 24 hour mark of being awake. I told my employer i cant barely stand and I’m basically like a zombie however he then ended up asking if i can work till 1pm. I stood my ground and told him ill do till 12pm and leave to get some sleep. I don’t know how i managed to drive to…

Been lurking in the sub for a while and I’m grateful this community exists

Last summer I was working a job as a steward for my town's yacht club. I was warned that if I was called to work parties, I might have to deal with rich entitled drunk people. Thankfully that didn't happen but every shift I was the only one working there, and I developed isolation issues, especially coming out of a pandemic. All the guests were either way older than me or children (I was 20) and often I found myself just standing around and waiting to help someone once my daily tasks were complete. I should have noticed the red flag that my pay started at $14 an hour, which I paid little notice to since I thought it was close enough to 15. Eventually as the summer went on, more problems occurred. I wasn't getting any help with my mental health issues, not even from my parents who I…

Boyfriend gets punched at work

As the title says… My boyfriend is an assistant manager at Family Dollar. He was arguing with a customer because they wanted to pay for Swishers (to make blunts) the next day since he had no money on him. The customer was getting agitated. He grabbed the blunts and started walking out. My boyfriend walked after him and before he knew it, he got punched in the face. The guy ran off and my boyfriend's lip was bleeding. The cops were called, he filed a report. They're getting him for robbery and battery. Boyfriend works the rest of his shift while his manager does absolutely nothing about it. Next day (today) he fills out an incident report and… Nothing. His manager is making him work his full shift instead of getting his lip looked at. She's also making him work his next shift which is tomorrow morning. I'm just peeved…
