Why do people think a company can just raise prices? Usually it’s said as an excuse for low wages. “If a company has to raise its wages, it’s prices will go up!” But like, that’s not how that works right? Just think about it for a minute. Do you think if any company could raise profits just by raising prices, they wouldn’t have done that already? If I’m selling X product for 4$, but could make more money for 5$, I’d sell it for 5$. If I’d lose too many sales to make more profit selling it for 6$, I won’t. How does raising any business expenses change this at all? It’s still not going to be any more profitable to raise the price. Raising prices isn’t just some magical way to increase revenue every time cost goes up. The only wait to actually increase revenue, is to perfectly balance…
Thank you to this sub from a new manager
I have been in my current job for 9 years. I have always worked alone and have not had anyone report to me. This changed a month ago when a small section of two people were moved under me. So for the first time I am a Manager. I spoke to my people today and told them that although their job puts the food on the table, but that it should NOT be their Nr 1 priority. Their families and themselves are the number 1 priority. If they or their close family are sick or they have a crisis, it has priority over work.
End of last year, I quit my corporate job which sucked my soul dry. Beginning of this year, I'm a union man and the company just increased pay to every worker because the union said so! God bless the workers of the world. God bless the unions. May we all lay down and rest when our bones get tired and may we all take the leisure stolen from us by the worthless dregs who call themselves 'boss'!
We’re a family here
Short story long story
Hiya! Short story : Going in for a small shift soon (Pick my clothes up and go after this post) but my boss might be in and might want to talk about the *anxiety freakout* (hidden from customers) i had that forced me to leave work 3 hours earlier a week ago. Depending on this chat, I may opt to stop working for the company even though I haven't even been with them for 2 months yet. Because the freakout was foreshadowed. By me. Weeks ago. I mentioned that I'm not good with evening shifts (People tire. I tire harder because my meds act as stimulants, which when they wear off…it's normal people tire plus a MASSIVE face punch of extreme exhaustion) – instead I was put in for ten hours that day, which includes the awful closing shift where they expect you to do way way way too…
Not sure if intentionally malicious….
So, we just found out today what our “raise” we get this year is. They “based” it on our attendance and we didn't know that they were going to do that until two weeks before we got the “raise”. Too late to make a change if needed. This “raise” is 30 cents. Not even 2% for us. The difference between this so called raise and inflation for my is almost a dollar an hour for me. One of my coworkers didn't even get the pay bump since they called in too much since they got sick. I am so done with working here.
