My (old) job just tried to tell me I couldn’t leave!

Background: I do not currently have a vehicle. I carpool with a coworker who works the same shifts as I do. This coworker has several medical issues. Today: My coworker needed to leave early because he was not feeling well. I informed my floor manager that I needed to leave as well, as coworker was my ride and all my things were in his vehicle (note that I am not allowed to bring a purse into my store, they say it makes it too easy for us to steal.) I got some major attitude and then was called into the office. The conversation (after some bullshit about me calling in a couple times previously… I have long haul Covid and the bills to prove it…) Floor manager (FM): So, you need to stay. Coworker is sick but you're not. I just asked and there are three people willing to give…

Any business that cannot afford to pay a livable wage does NOT deserve to exist. A business that cannot pay a livable wage is straight up SLAVERY.

Change my mind. I dare you. There is no logical rational for a business to exist that cannot pay its employees a livable wage. Any business that cannot afford to pay a livable wage does NOT deserve to exist. A business that cannot pay a livable wage is straight up slavery. A livable wage must cover the following: The median rent in 250 mile vicinity of the business if it is an urban center or a 1000 mile radius if it is a rural area.…

How do I ask my boss to increase my hours

Hello! This is my first time posting here. I am currently a part time worker at a local mom and pop bakery and I work about 20-21 hours a week while also balancing my college workload. My hours have been getting cut recently and at first it was just a day off every now and then but now I’m barely making half of what I was making before and this is happening to all of my part time coworkers. When one of them asked the owner and manager why she’s cutting hours, she said she wants to prioritize full time workers. The only people that have stayed working at the bakery through Covid have been us part time workers and the full time workers she’s prioritizing are not fully trained (we are expected to train them) and they have very little desire to actually learn. Whenever I work with the…
