My boss claims that when we have an issue with a coworker, we should provide written feedback to the coworker. I feel that this pits people against each other and verbal feedback should be given and the boss should provide the written feedback. I feel we have a bullying colleague on our team. I have given them verbal feedback. I stepped in deep doo doo when after the bully escalated an item to myself and a colleague’s (John) boss claiming John made a mistake when the mistake was actually the bully's mistake. I complained to my boss who told me to put feedback in writing. I sent this written feedback to my boss and it ended up in front of HR. Now my boss is providing corrective feedback to me because it turns out John’s boss actually asked the bully to write the feedback to John. My boss said that…
Why does society allow this?
I work retail, selling videos games mostly and more often then not people say “I work all the time and don't have time for games anymore”. Where did we as a society force people to work so much they can't even have a dam hobby? Like it actually pisses me off that the normal expectation is to work your life away. I'm at work more them I'm at home these days and I can't stand it.
This is how my boss is laying us all off
Because of a language barrier the note is very hard to read so it says “listen carefully, we are closing the kitchen. June/30/23 is the last day, because not enough business. Thank you for your help.” The owner at my job put this note up and left without actually telling anyone in person. We all took this as we will no longer have a job after June/30. The manager, as well as two other employees messaged and called him and asked if that means he will no longer need us. He has completely ignored everyone. When he came in to the store today, he ran through so fast nobody could even talk to him. We still don’t really know what this means for us.
And what's with this new UK “Right To Work” bring your papers, please. Photocopy it and bring it in so we can keep it for our records. And also sign (not review, just sign) the paper form when you attend that of many things; exclaims you submit to a medical examination upon offer or at anytime to the discretion of the employer. Should I just accept this? It's not as if I'm bending over a barrel is it?
Company fired me right after my shift
So a company I worked for fired me right after my shift on Thursday. No warning or heads up or anything. I’m not mad about it but that is a prime example of why I would never give a company a two weeks notice. I wasn’t given a notice of termination so why should anyone tell the company they work for that they’re quitting?
Normalizing Wage Conversation
How effective would it be if Americans (or heck maybe everyone?) started advertising their wage publicly? Why isn’t this more talked about? I always found it hard to figure out where to work or even apply because I never knew what range of wages was even available to me. Even the job I have now I had sortve recommended to me otherwise I never even would’ve known to apply there. Should we all be wearing a “hello my wage is…” sticker all the time to bring up pay gaps ? If it was listed on our social medias and everyone saw how much we make in a year would that make people question pay gaps more? If not, why? Why isn’t this some of the first things that get brought up when you meet your coworkers? Because it’s socially unacceptable/ rude?
