At my (24f) previous job, I was a caregiver in an aged care facility, and stayed at the job for three years. They were always short staffed, and barely paid above minimum wage. Toward the end of my employment, they tried implementing tactics to try and secure more staff, one of which was them starting a “recruitment reward” that stated if a staff member recommended a potential candidate for the job and the candidate went for an interview, the staff that sourced them would receive a $100 reward. If the candidate stayed for six months, the staff would get another $100, and then again at 12 months. I did not recommend anyone, nor search for potential candidates because I didn’t want them to experience the toxic environment. Leaving that job was marvellous for my mental and emotional health.
If you don't have to take abuse from the public, then you are a lot less likely to suffer from stress. The real problem with today's employment world is that the largest sector is the service sector, which makes workers in a vulnerable position in front of their customers.
Know your worth.
My jobs are continuing to cut hours cross the board. This week two of them said i cannot work this week, i am barred from picking up shifts. One coworker cannot get a shift covered not because no one wants to cover it but because the 3 people who said they could the store said “no you can't your not allowed to work this week period” Like fucking hell there are signs and managers saying we are short staffed all over the placs one small problem in reality once you actually ask for a job or a worker there says they know someone who wants to work its revealed Most of these places aren't hiring, most of these places the whole “no one wants to work” is a facade to intentionally overwork a smaller workforce for less hours and pay. They have no intent of fixing this issue. If they…
I work for a well known restaurant company, BJs, and today there was a former bartender in charge as manager who is not officially a manager. She wrote me up today and one of the things was for appearance because she claimed my face was puffy. I told her that was unfair since today I didn’t wear my usual makeup. is this legal? she also wrote me up for dishonesty since I didn’t tell her that someone gave me their silverware to use. Is there legal grounds for any of this?
Long story short I’m a college student working for the summer. I have 2 jobs. Job 1 is in my field and very rewarding. Job 2 is fast food. Job 1 originally wasn’t super communicative and I was under the impression I wouldn’t have much for hours. Because of this I got job 2. I will now be working job 1 every day. Only a few hours, but the money would be more than enough to live off of. I’ve had 2 days at job 2 and it is AWFUL. Y’all know how fast food goes. I’ve made the decision to leave as I no longer “need” the job. Is there any reason I shouldn’t just stop showing up and not answer calls? I will not use them as a reference in the future and I never planned on it.
Quiet Quitting For The Win
I am new to work, working at a job for a company. That's all the introduction for now. In my country, the salary is calculated monthly instead of hourly. That means employers can ask me to work for any hours they want. The law does not limit the maximum time to work, but states that the standard is 40 hours/week (the monthly salary is decided with the assumption that the employees work for 40 hours/week). Sounds like a recipe for disaster, am I right? Furthermore, there is no law for minimum wage for part-time, internship, and hourly-based jobs. As a result, the salary of these kinds of jobs is, like, 2-5 times lower than the minimum wage after converting the salary to hourly at best, and $0 at worst (usually internships. Lots of unpaid internships here, it's actually insane). This means that none of these are worth it at all,…
My boss is a pedophile
Imma give some context. Im 15, and I work at a local cafetaria that serves traditional Dutch food. I have alot of friends that work in that place and we almost never work together because the man has a million employees but the place itself is really small. This is also why I can pretty much only work once every one or two weeks. So my friends have been telling me stories on how my boss inappropriately touches them on the shoulders or by grabbing their hands and say “you're hands are so cold my” (translation of what I have been told). I have no Idea in what other places I can work but I really want to quit and I need the little money I make. I know that this is a pretty big accusation and I don't know if it is my responsibility to point him out on…
I hate how it literally transforms everything and everything we see into numbers. Everything becomes a fucking crunch and rat race and for what? It's completely endless. Every life choice you have to make even if you absolutely need it like healthcare, all comes down to the dollars in your bank account. Capitalism makes everything in life all about markets and it's so shoved in your face you just can't help but feel everything becomes lifeless around. It's dehumanizing as hell. There has to be a better economic system out there. Sorry if my rant doesn't make sense. I've had a depressing and exhausting day.
Summer hours
Why do jobs feel it’s okay to overschedule teens during the summer? I’ve seen many of my friends complaining about working nonstop over the summer and did not know how bad it was. I have a job in food and am about to be on 8 straight days. Do they think because we don’t have school we don’t have the right to some free time. This is a general question, not a “what should I do” type scenario. Had anyone else on here experienced this? I cant wait until leave this place and am out of school entirely (I’m freshly 17 for extra context)
