My current workplace just extended their hours, which in turn has increased all of our work hours by more than 8 hours per week. However, we are paid salary and have seen no change to our pay… which in and of itself is equivalent to a pay cut. We are essentially working another full shift for free. There have been some grumbles but no one has really spoken up about this. I couldn't believe that what they were doing was entirely legal, as not only are we now working in excess of our contracted hours (37.5 / week), we are also in excess of our provincially Legislated full time hours (44 / week). We do not recieve overtime pay nor any additional compensation for the extra hours worked. So I did some research and low and behold, it would appear that they are breaking labour laws and withholding overtime pay.…
Because I guess the 1-2 hours we spent every got damn night over the course of the damn school year wasn’t enough right. I know this isn’t necessarily “work related” but all I can see this as, is preparation to “work until your fingers grind down to bone and your eyes bleed from lack of sleep”. I know I’m being a little dramatic but DAMN. The child is 6 dammit. SIX. He’s only going into second grade this coming year. Can kids even enjoy their damn summer anymore??? Rant over. 🤬
For an assistant manager in an International clothing store ? Edit: I'm asking this question because I've had a couple of job interviews and all tried to low ball me into oblivion. Even when I applied and got the interview invitation, I got offered a part-time sales associate job. This currently company didn't do that. But the fear is there. Thank you.
It just seems like the more I research this question the ideal answer is that I'm going to stick around for 5 years in their company which is completely unrealistic, is the real test just to see how well you lie? I guess there is some value in saying what you'll do while you work there; training others, supporting others, yadda yadda yadda, but honestly my real plan shouldn't ABSOLUTELY involve staying there 5 years from now.
The fact we get paid still is a miracle
All that really matters to me is the rate of pay and the hours.. what would they possibly want me to ask? I’m able to pull a few innocuous questions out of my ass but eventually I feel like I am wrong for not asking more questions. Any opinions or insights would be useful, thank you guys
