Honestly not sure if this is ok to post here but I’m so frustrated. I just moved to a new state and was looking for work. I saw the local humane society was hiring for a few positions. I applied and it then brought me to a Google form saying they’re doing open interviews every Monday from 1-3 and to pick a date/time and show up. Perfect! I show up on Monday (a little weird it was a holiday but it was on the calendar so I chose it), wouldn’t you know it, I’m told… Lady: oh, we’re not doing open interviews anymore. Where did you see that? Me: on your website? There was a Google form and everything to fill out. Lady: oh, yeah that should’ve been taken down. Me: ok well what now? Lady: yeah. I’ll have to tell my manager to take that down. But we’re not…
Sick of being underpaid with a high workload, I put in a notice for the 30th of June. Trying to build a buffer by working for one more paycheck, and also an attempt to not burn a bridge and be kind by giving as much notice as possible. Instead I get an email from the regional manager saying they accept my resignation on June 15th… When I pointed out there was an error there, I was told that for “staff and manpower purposes” they can only accept my resignation on that date… Well too bad for them as I walked off then and there. People will say how service industry jobs at retail stores and restaurants are “unskilled” and therefore the people working them don't deserve a living wage. Because apparently the jobs are only for teenagers/young people who still live with their parents. Adults who are trying to support themselves with these jobs are just losers who need to simply “get a better job”, so if they choose to work these jobs, they deserve to be in poverty. But then these same people turn around and complain about how the teens working these jobs goof off, don't do their jobs, and give such bad customer service. I saw a complaint that someone wrote on Facebook the other day, saying how this young girl working at the restaurant was so incompetent and had a bad attitude. And then literally said, “they shouldn't hire 16 year olds to work here.” Yet I'm sure this same…
Management started using a chatbot after firing all the hotline employees, and the chatbot is apparently giving extremely harmful advice. That's litigation for another day, but for now the union has like a textbook case here, but I can't find anything suggesting they filed a charge against their employer.
Looks like SCOTUS reversed the Washington State Supreme Court over the teamsters timing a strike which led to tens of thousands of dollars of lost concrete. 21-1449 Glacier Northwest, Inc. v. Teamsters (06/01/2023) (supremecourt.gov) The vote appears to be 8 to 1.
quit today. didnt tell her that tho
my now ex boss just gave me a heart attack at 6 this morning saying she'll be in about an hour late, and to be patient. (she frequently puts holes in the schedule right after me so im forced to stay longer than my shift. so this is normal.) what isnt normal, is her bringing all this up to me when im at home snuggling with my cats enjoying a quiet morning waiting for the world to wake up so i can take the dogs outside. i send her a picture of the last schedule that was made (five days ago. for t h i s week) and the picture i took of it was from the last time i was in, (because it had been changed without notice. again.) two days ago. and i told her as the manger if the schedule is changed it's her duty to alert…
I worked for a company for the last three and a half years, the first two of which were fantastic. 2022 was rough for me and my entire team; our entire leadership structure vanished, leaving me to hold down both supervisor and manager roles simultaneously (while only getting paid for the lower of the two). My team actually flourished during this time, and when we finally had a new manager step in, I was advised that an official promotion for me was “a matter of 'when', not 'if'”. Then the layoffs happened, as they did for a ton of tech companies. I lost almost my entire team, and only found out they were being let go five minutes before they did. I barely had time to say anything to them, and I felt sick about it. The final straw was when I was told a couple days later that the…
Sooo my situation has escalated
In the UK, you get your full employment rights after you've been in your workplace for 2 years. I've been in mine for 22 months. And they want to get rid of me. I just received a “warning”. The reasons? Someone saw me “playing on my phone”, once – they even specified a date lol – but for some reason didn't think it fitting to tell me there and then, instead waiting two weeks to write me a note? For two days within these 22 months I was unproductive I was sick for seven days within the past three months. I'd normally be happy that I can leave this super toxic workplace but I'm panicking I've got no savings, as this is a minimum wage job. What do I do? Any kind words?
