I recently started a new job. A few days in, my new boss tells me I have to sign a non-compete, which says I cannot work in another IT role for 10 years after I leave. The company does not do IT work for clients. I am the only IT person in the company and I do IT work internally, not for clients. They conveniently waited until I quit my previous job to tell me about this. Is this agreement even enforceable?
Is this normal in an office job?
I just started a job at a new place (office job) been here around 4 months already. I’m young (F, early 20s) there’s only 3 other people roughly my age and the rest are a lot older. I have a boss who I mostly answer to, everyone else answers to a different boss. But there’s one guy who also works for my boss a lot too, he’s higher up than me but he’s a little younger. Even though we’re a few years apart, we don’t really have much in common. My boss randomly came up with the idea that if we meet our targets (only the three of us) we can have an “award”. I thought the award was gonna be bonus pay or something but nope, turns out if we hit the targets for the week we get to go either to drinks or a lunch, just the three…
Quit on my 90th day (2 year old story)
I work in social work. I have been working in the field for over a decade. I had moved an hour plus from where I was working to be closer to my GF. I drove back and forth for a year or so but it wasn’t worth it financially anymore. I found and eventually interviewed for a job 20 mins from where I lived and honestly, fell ‘in love’ with the person who would be my direct boss. The interview was 2 hours long because we got sidetracked or distracted. She hired me on the spot because of my experience and personality alone. She told me she would need a ‘right hand’ and I would be it. I took a dollar pay cut but with the distance is actually be making more. Plus there was a sign on bonus after 90 days I start the job and there are a…
Really, how ? I've done a one-week internship in a DIY supermarket (supposed to be two weeks but i couldn't continue due to being the opposite of athletic and having to lift heavy objects). I hated it. Doing all these boring tasks all day long to get nothing out of it was terrible. And being treated expulsed mike shit didn't help. The manager said i was “indolent”. Now, i'm starting an one-month internship in a more “normal” convenience store (it's called “trafic”, i don't know if it exist in other countries.). After one day, i'm already bored. I've been at the cash register and filling the shelves around the store. It feels like everything is always the same and i hate it. Due to the location of the store, i have to wake up at 6 AM and i get back home at 8 PM, which is far too much…
I work in accounting and my controller left a few weeks ago. We discussed my July vacation, told me it was approved but failed to report to HR because she thought she had time. To be fair my company requires 1 month notice for anything 2+ days. So, I reach out to our treasurer who is now my boss, because we are apparently not hiring another controller. She tells me she can approve it but only if I get coverage..here's the kicker: I'm the only AR for 4 companies! AP can't do my job, and neither can my operations manager. Wtf am I supposed to do? Never take vacation? Why am I in charge of covering my days off? Isn't that her job now since we have no controller? I did ask her who I could get to cover me since this feels like a slap in the face. She…
Got fired after asking for insurance
Just got let go 2 days after asking for insurance (3 months in). Was told I’m in over my head and when it came down to it “2 bodies can’t fit in one seat.” Meaning they already hired my replacement. I’m a believer in all things happening for a reason but damn.
Phone settings need more life balance
Seriously annoyed at how phones “work” and “home” are more a “focus time” for work but it doesn’t give me the option to list people not to call before or after work hours. Unless I’m missing something, my “vacation” is going to include blocking their numbers because they are very guilty of contacting me at home for things that should have been an email and we’re not any type of emergency.
This is a simplification of a “big lie”. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_lie This tactic is very much used in propaganda today.
That’s some salary range £0-£100,000
Love a MLM
My boss is so fuckin weird. I'm doing such a huge variety of bullshit at this job, which is precisely why I'm quitting. I made another post about this job a while back. Had this job for 8 years. The owner is bringing in his kids to take over management roles while I continue to do management type duties. I really want others to quit as well, but oh well. My boss hasn't even announced I'm quitting yet and told me to keep it secret. My last day is tomorrow and I did the proper 2 weeks notice BS, etc. In the middle of training a girl today to do some of my duties I asked her if she knew I was quitting and to my surprise she didn't, and no one else does either. Not sure what the fuck is wrong with my boss, but he obviously forgot how…
