A few months ago I was laid off and was looking for a new job. I interviewed with a company a while back and they asked me how much I wanted for pay and I told them $30 but was looking for $27-30 (last job paid $24 and was on the lower side). To my absolute shock they said they would give me $35. To say I was blown away is an understatement. I have never had an employer want to pay the amount I asked for let alone more than I wanted. I've been working here for 2 months and the work culture here is fantastic and management is super nice and supportive.
Why do these places waste your time??
I was reached out by a long term care facility for a activity person for residents. The main office confirmed the interview with me and that it was ok for them to do a phone one to see if I was a good fit before an in person one because I live 30 minutes away. Ten minutes past when the person was supposed to call me, no phone call. I called the business and told the receptionist why I was calling. There must be crappy communication because they had me talk to some random lady not in charge of hiring and she didn’t even ask questions really… then proceeded to tell me the HR person was doing orientations and they would reach out to me later or tomorrow. Why do these businesses waste my time especially for a part time position and I am the only one putting initiative into…
I work in a call center (biggest mistake of my life, I knew it would suck but it’s exceeded my expectations) and I was recently told I was taking too much time for bathroom breaks. We’re allowed 30 minutes a week and I was taking 44. I’m technically able to do it in the allowed time but I’m just annoyed about every aspect of the job and this was the last straw. I had a doctor appointment and I said that I’ve been taking longer than usual so I need a note for my employer because they monitor our time. So now I’m taking as much time as I want and taking extra little mental health breaks labelled as bathroom time. I’m way too old to be treated like a fucking child. Fuck call centers! Never work in one if you can help it. I’m obviously looking for a new…
hi all, i'm 23 years old and i'm not interested in paying off my credit cards. I have two; one with a 3,000$ balance and another with a 5,000$ balance. i don't care about credit scores, mortgages, buying a car, whatever bs is part of modern capitalism, i have no shame in my debt whatsoever. however, i still want to make sure i'll be personally okay. i know collections will come for me, but will I be legally held accountable or will my car for example be stolen? or the money in my bank account stolen?? what's the worst thing that could possibly happen to me for not paying these cards off?? i'm already getting called everyday and today was the first time my sister was called in regards to my debt. my end goal in life is to leave the U.S. forever, I do not plan on buying any…
Joining a Union
I’m a retail worker, cashier specifically, at an office supply store (not the one with the Easy button, the other one) and our physical location is really small. On an average day we have only about 5-6 employees in the store, which means I typically end up doing more than just cashiering. But because of the small size I highly doubt our store could ever unionize. However, I would like to join a union. Is it possible to join a union independently? I know there are unions that exist like this for other industries but I haven’t heard of one for retail workers.
I started work from home during the pandemic. The quality of work did not drop, actually, it improved. Last year I bought a house in another city. I notified my line manager of this throughout the period I was house hunting and was never told not to do this or that it would be problematic. A few weeks ago I was called into a meeting and told I would be put on a remote contract seeing as commuting cross country throughout the week would be too expensive and extremely yime consuming, details pending, which I was fine with. Yesterday I had a meeting with my bosses boss. HR were not present it was just he and I. He said the company is willing to offer me 2 months paid gardening leave to find another job. Whenever I said redundancy he would bring it back to gardening leave. This was the…
My Counter-Offer
first time ever providing a counteroffer for a new job. I was already 99% sure that they wouldn't be able to meet me even in the middle, so I thought I'd provide a thoughtful, dignified response. Their response: “Thank you so much for your feedback on the offer and the transparency of your decision-making. Unfortunately, we cannot meet your expectations. I truly appreciate the amount of time and thought you put into our process and this email. You have given us a lot to think about. I am sure you will be an incredible asset to the organization you find yourself at.” —— COUNTER-OFFER EMAIL So, in the spirit of transparency, I wanted to provide you with my thoughts, concerns, and expectations so that you know where my head is at. Base Salary + Bonus 80k would be an immediate pay cut for me. Bonus pay is not guaranteed and therefore is…
They can’t fire us all
Hey everyone, I was just scrolling thru r/antiwork and noticed (like always) a lot of F**ked up stuff but, I don't see any post about people protesting or going strikes for these atrocitiesthe companiesand gov are doing. I notice a lot of talk but a lack of action. Idk the demographic of this sub reddit but it kind of surprise me no one has started anything. If people really created a movement to raid the area 51 and brought a lot of attention, why can we start something like it? 1 day that no one goes to work, just 1 day. Use a point, a sick day, a vac day or a medical excuse and let's all just don't go to work, you know like, let's do something about it, other than just read it on the internet and get mad at work from the sofa. Let's do a new…
