I keep a box of corndogs in the work freezer for when I don't pack a lunch. I haven't eaten them in over week so I don't know when it happened, but someone shoved a dirty bottle of toilet cleaner right into the box. I don't know if it was some idiot who took a prank too far or some kind of weird way to make a threat? Whatever it is I'm furious. The loss of my corndogs is one thing but it's more the underhandedness of it that ticks me off. I don't know what I could have done to make someone do this.
Without pay. We have to do it on our own time at home, I’ve been trying to take shortcuts and it’s still taken me around 3 hours and I’m not even halfway done. This is a starting position making minimum wage at a restaurant. Why should I have to spend hours of my scarce off time watching training videos and taking tests. They let us know 3 days ago that if it wasn’t done by today we’d be fired. Honestly should be illegal.
This article kinda made my blood boil.
Things go awry with THE QUESTION
So, a US-based confections company recently reached out to me on LinkedIn. They seemed pretty fine in general, and I like sweets, and as an engineer I haven't really worked with a company that produces food before, let alone sweets, so I decided to give it a go. The first interview with HR went okay, it's the usual “check you are not literally unaliving people as a hobby” kind of an interview, then I talked to some of their engineers in the next few rounds, seemed like really chill people in general, and I was fairly impressed by how normal everyone seemed there. Then it was a turn to interview with her. Wellness Officer. At this point I am used to this type of cringe, you know, those super upbeat “love everyone” people who go around and pretend HR is a science? Yup, this place got 'em. Alright, I think,…
Words Matter
How about we stop saying low skill jobs when we mean jobs people do not want? People assume service workers, fast food and some retail jobs are low skill. People who think that have NO IDEA how much skill is required to put up with customers and ALL of that bs without screaming at them, throwing their crap at them, telling them to F the F off. If you want to know how much skill it requires eat some crap while smiling & asking for me ever so politely, for even 4 hours. People skills are skills many people making a crap ton of money have no clue about. O right if you have enough money you don't need ANY thing else, except to keep making more.
Just normal LOL
The organization I have worked at for 4ish months claims to do-good but I completely disagree with what they stand for. I accepted the job reluctantly because of this but I was desperate for work for personal reasons and had to. I feel embarrassed to tell people where I work and feel guilt every day about what I do, which has definitely impacted my morale at work. But for many reasons, I need to stay there for another 9 months. It stresses me out getting through each day knowing that my work is contributing toward something corrupt and goes against my ethics and morals. Advice for how to deal with this? Does anyone else experience it at their job?
What would it be?
Back in April our director told us they were working on getting us all raises. This last weekend, we had a city wide meeting to talk about seasonal stuff and nothing was mentioned at all about it. In fact, most of the time we were getting screamed at. This weekend has been super busy and everyone is scrambling for coverage because no one can work their scheduled shifts. Vacation, camps, other locations, they forgot to factor in so many things. It’s entertaining as hell to see it all falling apart. Fuck em. I’m looking for jobs and will happily say goodbye when I can.
Hey, I'm a capitalist that wants to learn about this. Trying to be more open minded and educated. Thanks!
