I’m so glad the place I work basically my entire waking life at values my time and effort :)

This will literally have no affect on my financial situation. If I got the same raise next year I still wouldn’t make another dollar extra. I’m so tired of destroying my body and mind for absolutely nothing, meanwhile the business I work at has had RECORD breaking profits. Also the person in charge of reviewing and giving the raise has never seen me work, EVER, and chronically fails to do their own job. And I don’t mean they suck at it, they straight up don’t do it. ( scheduling and management )

They (US) hardly did anything then, and we worshipped it. Corps were the only ones that really got help.

Pay me what you owe me.

First off, the laws in my country specify that extra work or overtime is to be compensated with your hourly wage (+40% for overtime) unless the employee has agreed to get extra time off hour for hour. We also get 5 weeks paid vacation every year. And we have 3 months notices that goes both ways unless the employer can no longer afford to pay you in which case they owe you your last monthly paycheck and your paid vacation if you haven’t used it. So with that out of the way I’ll tell you the story. I worked part time at a place with very flexible hours except from a 4 hour window every week which suited me perfectly at the time. I liked the job and didn’t mind working a little extra here and there to complete tasks, since that’s me choosing to work extra without clearing it…

Vent: Why do employers mostly seem to live in a parallel reality?

I'll try not to ramble but I just am so tired of how bosses/employers generally seem to exhibit extensive and unusual behavioral problems. I know the economic system we live in rewards narcissistic and sociopathic behavior, there's the Dunning–Kruger effect to consider, etc. But it's still so jarring for me to try and picture how these people manage to function their daily lives. How do they maintain friendships or family? Do they truly believe what they say and do, or are they aware, deep down, that they're mostly hypocrites and frauds? Do they spend so much time around worse hypocrites and bigger assholes that they see themselves as saints in comparison? I work in game development and am currently reasonably compensated at an okay enough studio. Nevertheless, like essentially every other workplace I've been in, there is: Terrible to non-existent planning. Mgmt doesn't seem to do their work competently or…

What do you say ‘ah good enough’ at your job because you’re not paid enough?

I was told to build out a website. Little things that increase SEO and help increase user experience, I am not doing… and marketing stuff is good enough to pass composition test but not getting extra love for specific sizing to make it perfecter. Fuck you, pay me, bossman.

Any advice on co-owner not paying me a salary or wage?

Long story, but one of the co owners of our business is claiming because of downturn in business, they will not be paying my salary but expect me to keep performing my work duties. We do not have a owner’s agreement, and the business agreement does not list this loss of salary as being a potential result because of a slow down in business. This co owner wrote this all in a letter to me, demanding I continue my job duties with no pay. I am in the US, and it looks like this is a violation of FSLA under the rights of an exempt employee. The state i work in is a right-to-work state. Has anyone had experience with a similar situation?

I feel like there’s a lesson here about not living in a Meritocracy and how hard work and effort don’t = pay and recognition. But I’m sure we’ll all just focus on it being about Tom Cruise/highly paid actors

Manager been passive aggressive for months, and it’s affecting my ability to work

I have a consulting contract with a fixed number of days. Since I requested additional days to be added to my contract in order for it cover the project duration my manager has been giving me snide remarks, telling me I am paid too much (although my rate was not fixed by me but according to the organisation’s pay scale) and micromanaging me in a way that is making me feel I don’t do my job well enough. My manager then tells me no other consultants requested additional days (not true) and that they bill less days than they work (which unfortunately is what I was also doing). Anyway, I don’t have much left to do for this project before I can finally pack up and close this chapter. But I just can’t find the energy to care enough to complete my remaining tasks. I don’t do well with this…

How do you deal with the fact that you have to work for the rest of your life?

Do you manage to find hope? Do you think there's a light in the end of the tunnell? Or you've just came to terms with the fact you will be miserable til the day you die.
