I'm trying to find something in FL law or OSHA that can help me find something relating to this issue for a family member: if an employee (health care) works from 10pm to 9am (45min transit time), has to come on Thursday and Friday and is told they have a mandatory meeting (that they have always been excused from since they apparently only schedule one) at 1pm on Friday, should the employee bite the bullet and get written up (disciplinary action but unsure what kind) or skip the meeting so safety reasons. Uber costs half a full shift both ways, spouse is working, father in law doesn't have a car and job refuses to pick up employee. They get off around 9am (sometimes 10am if someone doesn't come in on time, happens often). Gets home at 945am. Eats quickly and showers. In bed asleep by 1030am Wakes up at 12pm.…
Got suddenly let go yesterday
Really sucks. This was my first full-time office job and we were discussing future opportunities for advancement not even a week ago. I had no negative feedback whatsoever while I was there, so this has been a huge shock to everyone. It was just the end of my 90 day probationary period, and the only feedback I received was that I “wasn't the right fit” for the position. I was also working in a minuscule office setting (~5 people) so I already knew everyone and we got along well. I live in an at-will state, so I don't think there's much I can do other than file for unemployment and start the grind again. Sorry I can't name names, they play an important role in our legal system. Just sucks!
Seriously, every day on this forum alone we see dozens of post's and comments of the horrendous conditions of the American workers life. I ain't even talking about the workplace environment yet. I am just talking about the 16 hours a day your not expected to be at a job. We the people deserve so much more then what we have. We are currently OWNED, not ruled, not governed, not even represented. We are OWNED. No one can convince me that we are no better then slaves. Infact we have been labeled “Wage Slaves”, to soften the blow that we are SLAVES and we are OWNED. Granted our ownership is abstract and defined only by the systems in power because we have not pulled the plug on them yet. And by pulling the plug, I do mean that in both the metaphoric and in reality. The SYSTEM is rigged, and…
you can train it with your resume and then feed it job listings, this is SO helpful if you’re in a field like tech where every posting expects an individual letter and you have to apply to dozens of jobs
Like holy shit we have technology to do more than cut our work weeks in half, and we could make college free so more people can be health workers and teachers who are paid well, so they aren't understaffed. What the hell even is this anymore? We need to have more leisure time than work time already, you can't get your time back either. We are just being robbed of our energy and time for no real long term benefit. What do you think?
I sent an email to my ex supervisor asking for proof of leaving company to apply for benefits and in my email I said I was uncomfortable reaching out to HR myself. She forwarded my email exactly as it was to HR

I recently started a new job a few months ago and while things have been going really smoothly, this last month has been particularly challenging. My manager has recently lost someone close, and was off work for a while to deal with grief and bereavement. However, since then, things have taken a nosedive. Just today, me and a few others were accused of not showing enough ‘empathy’ to her, despite the fact that a few of us sent my manager reassuring emails when she announced her leave, telling them to rest well and to spend time with her family. I am honestly baffled as to what could’ve gone wrong or how that could’ve be construed as being non-empathetic. My manager presents themselves as a private and independent person and constantly reminds us of this fact. Given that new members have joined the company recently, we are all acutely aware that…

Tired of my job
I posted about this experience right around when it happened, but I am tired of this job. Right around Christmas time I was going out for an unrelated surgery. I had received only four days of training on this one machine. I had two days with one person and hadn’t run it for almost a year and then got two days with another person who is also responsible for running another line on top of training me. I hadn’t run it for months at this point. One of my supervisors comes up and asked me if I remember how to run it. I told him that I kind of remember how to run it. The supervisor didn’t call product or get the parts of the machine that I needed or anything. They just put somebody on my machine and just magically. Expect me to know that I’m supposed to run…
