What’s the story in Canada?
A lot of posts I’ve seen in this sub are based in the United States, and a common theme I see are wages not increasing but rent is. People have often cited rent as a reason not to move to Canada, but it can’t be any higher than the US with inflation now, right? If the wages are high enough, they should offset anyway, not to mention if there are laws in place that actually protect workers.

I'm in my early 30s. I don't have anything. No money, property, friendship, family, community, love. I never had high hopes for my life, but now I'm really getting tired of it all. I've always had poor health, but not considered severe enough to be eligible for disability. I don't want to be a slave. And I'm not built to be a slave. I'm not physically big or strong. I've tried a lot of things. The most drastic probably was being homeless living in my car – This was hell for me and thus I discarded this option. Two things I want are: 1) My own property – Just a small, decent single-family house. Bought at a fair price (fair mortgage rate, etc.), in a decent area. Why? Because I'm tired of renting apartments (expensive and losing $ paying for someone else's mortgage) and living with roommates (always a bad…
Really wondering where we are headed. Even though I know so much more than years ago and have more skills it seems things just keep getting harder. I think the big reason is the gradual merger of all small and mid-size companies to a larger mega-corp. Due to economies of scale and monopolies less workers are needed increasing competition. Every company and/or project I have worked on previously has either been end of lifed or bought out. Eg the 1st company I worked for was a small family owned private company. The owner sold to a much larger company leading to humongous layoffs and attrition. I left just as that larger company was getting bought out by a behemoth. They specialized in making companies very lean. That was 11 years ago. Now they are finally closing down the facility which is nearly empty now. The product manufacturing is being outsourced…
So as the title suggests I quit my job via just kinda quietly getting in my car and driving away. That's what those dicks should call “quiet quitting”, by the way. Blocked numbers/e-mails, full ghost. We are talking about the 27th restaurant I've cooked for over the span of 15 years. I wouldn't be the first to point out how shitty it is for seasoned restaurant workers getting poorer as wages just don't rise above the cost of living. Entry-level positions are more enticing than they were 5-10 years ago by a wide margin, and I think this really was related to Covid's impact on the industry. Take my word with a grain of salt if you will, sure I've clearly had my share of short stints in places but if you spend a decade or more in a single profession but a lot of different environments you see what…
