Red means off. My entire week last week was normal. However, as soon as my schedule was posted for the week of 05/15-05/21, I just knew I was fired. I’ve tried texting and calling my boss, but she’s refusing to answer. No idea why. I always showed up to work on time, in my uniform, and always did as I was told. Somehow, that warrants retaliation for me moving out of a very expensive area. Boss, we all know you’re severely underpaying your managers; you know you’re robbing them of money by the hundreds. And we all know you hire 85% teenagers because they’re cheaper. Let’s not forget the blatant OSHA violations, either (who the fuck stores cups on the shelf directly under the 8’ ceiling and doesn’t provide a ladder to get them???). You’re not slick. You’re not even hiding your indecency and eagerness to cut corners. You’re not…
At least they are not in America.
Work 20 hours a week somewhere? They need to be kicking in half the cost of a medical plan into an account. So if you have multiple part time jobs, you've got funds to get something on the exchange. You'd expect to see fewer BS attempts to keep people just under full time though since you're taking away their incentive.
I work for a major hospital system and am overall paid decent, but I cannot stand our attendance policy. We have an ‘occurrence’ system in place for missing work regardless of the reason. My kids have been sick non-stop since October and I’ve called in to take them to the doctor 3 times since November. The other day I got pulled into the office for a ‘counseling’ regarding my attendance. Once you hit 3 absences, you get a counseling….4 is a level 1 written warning, 5 a final written warning and 6 is termination. Even providing a doctor’s note you’re still subject to this policy. This is the dumbest shit I’ve ever dealt with. We can’t even take care of our sick kids without dealing with this bs from work. I’m over it. Just venting here. When I brought up how ridiculous this is to my boss she simply stated…
Nepotism at its finest
A quick discourse on narratives
Coming from the world of science, I believed for a long time that people are rational beings, and science brings us all closer to an objective ideal. What if our brains aren't wired to function purely off of facts and logic? What if, to take it a step further, a purely objective experience of is neither impossible nor desirable? I propose that human beings rationalize the world through stories, or narratives, and there exists a hierarchy of narratives. The struggle for political and therefore economic justice is a battle of narratives, of which stories will prevail in the hearts and minds of everyday citizens. Speaking against unjust popular narratives is never easy because of the corporate and political interests that defend, reinforce, and desperately try to keep them alive.
