No. No to all this. Antiwork has a manifesto written as The Abolition of Work. It was written by Bobby Black, who was a left Anarchist in (I believe) 1985. And follows similar logic to Epicurean and Left existentialism. The philosophy has fairly strict definitions, a lexicon and a goal. Which looks a lot like Barter Anarchism as described by Solarpunk and other Sustainable voluntary circles. Everything that is said on this sub is so far from anything approaching the original Antiwork movement. It's revolting. The goal was to eliminate money and coercion and create sustainable communities under Ludic and Epicurean principles. There are several project like this under way. Such as the Venus project. And it has been discussed since Sumeria. Although it was probably first codified under Lieh Tzu in his chapter on the philosopher Yang and his Garden of Pleasure.
I’ve got a medical procedure planned. It wasn’t scheduled two weeks out so I can’t take time off for it. I checked the schedule online and scheduled it for a day I have off. My boss is now saying that she’s changing the schedule because her schedule changed. She’s no longer working at our store for a day or two (going to help a different store) so now everyone’s (read: only managers) schedule is getting changed. She already only posts the schedule a day or two ahead of time. This time it’s literally the day of the new work week. And she says that the online schedule isn’t accurate and can change at any time. What’s the point of having it then if it’s not accurate? Im just not sure what I can do about it legally if I live in VA.
DOL/suit turnout?
Just curious. If anyone's sued or gone to DOL, how did it turn out?
I love the work that i do but i hate the pay. I work for a non profit that pays 20$/hr and limits the number of hours we work (4-6 a day) in one of the most expensive cities. We don’t get benefits or paid holidays, limited sick pay is it. I browsed job postings to see what similar roles at similar organizations in the area make- it’s typically 25-35 $ /hr . Here’s the thing: like three years ago they apparently paid 23-25 an hour for this role and 17 an hour for another role but then decided to pay 20/hr across the board. Also they say they have no room in the budget to pay us more or give more hours and yet they have a team of managers and administrators that do very little all day and we don’t know how much they make but it seems…
She must be really frustrated
“Work or die.”
I just started a job two weeks ago, however, the communication has been terrible. Both owners have been training me separately, but they are giving me conflicting information and have been changing my shifts literally the morning of. I hate working there and it’s been really stressful. I know it’s courteous to give two weeks notice, but since I’m still in training it doesn’t really make sense for them to train me any further when I’m going to be quitting. Can I just email them and say I’m quitting immediately with no notice. What’s the best way to go about this?
