If the railroad workers strike they will need our help, and I do mean all of us. We will have to walk the picket line with them for the basic human right of sick leave. We will have to call and write our elected leaders to show our support for the railroad workers for the basic human right of sick leave. We will have to provide food for their families while they strike for the basic human right for sick leave. We will have to dig deep into our pockets and help them pay bills if they walk the picket lines for the basic human right for sick leave. We will have to hide the Union leaders from the police who will seek jail them while the rank and file walk the picket line for the basic human right for sick leave. We will have to suffer the blows of…
Her boss doesn’t pay a living wage and has dragged out the conversation of my wife even having more suitable accommodations such as less standing to help her tendinitis and scoliosis. For reference, the boss is the owner of a coffee shop and interior design studio in one of the most expensive zip codes in the country yet insists that if she doesn’t have a living wage, she isn’t working hard enough for tips. The owner goes on a trip at least once a month and most of them are out of the country while we have had to ask for help from family to just pay rent. Like they had to recently make the case to the owner to order more CUPS because they are also made to feel bad for anything they order though the shop exceeds their goals each and every month. Like part of me just…
I work in public transport, on country commuter trains. Our roster allows for a finish time 45 minutes after the train is meant to get in, and we're supposed to restock the food service if we have time. If the train is say, 30 minutes late, we just go home. If it's an hour late, we put in for 15 minutes ot. Previous boss insisted we stick around even if the restock was done and there was nothing to do, sometimes standing around for half an hour. Current boss is cool if we leave early s'long as the restock was done. Ot is actually down with new boss because most of us won't bother to put in for less than half an hour. Train is 2h late – yes, we'll put in for that. But not 15 minutes. Because we know we're still ahead. We put in for everything with…
This is a long story, so buckle up. I started working for this start-up a few years ago as employee #5. I was the director and grew the business exponentially. Earlier this year we had 50+ employees. My boss was a nut job, but most of the time he wasn’t around and I was left to run the business myself which was great! He was one of those “we’re all a family here!” people, but I can assure you that was not the vibe whenever he was around. Well, then I got pregnant! My boss promised me a “generous maternity leave,” but whenever I asked for something in writing he said we’d cross that bridge when we came to it. (I know, I know) My baby arrived a month early – surprise! I was literally working through labor, but when my girl was here and rushed to the NICU for…
In Minecraft
Playing Minecraft tonight. Ran into an issue. After the ruling council has denied the right of my character to demonstrate his need for better gameplay conditions, what if the NPCs scattered about the map that are sympathetic to my character just completely trashed the ruling council's treasured supply lines all across the game's map? Could that have the same effect on the ruling council that my character not showing up for his scheduled mission would have? Just a thought.
So I have been working in my current field for years. It's a subset of communications. I attended 4 years of college but due to what can be simplified to a scheduling issue, I missed a couple of GE glasses required for my degree. I just started doing freelance and worked my way into the industry. My resume just has my dates attended and doesn't list any kind of final degree. I've worked multiple jobs since and it hasn't been a big deal or even brought up at all. I'm about to sign an offer for a job I could see myself working at for a very long time, and while I again never presented myself like a college grad…I'm nervous. When I sign my offer should I get ahead of it and reiterate that I don't have a final certificate of any kind? It feels dumb to to worry…
Any tips for how to start a union?
I work in a restaurant where we get paid minimum wage with no benefits. Nobody here has experience with union stuff so I'm trying to step up and get the ball rolling, but I don't know where to start. People are definitely interested we just dont know what to do.
