Promised raise months ago

A couple of months ago I was told by my manager that his manager approved a raise for me. I was told the amount but am keeping it vague just in case. I was told it might take payroll a couple weeks to process, said thank you and got back to work. A few excuses later here I am with no pay increase and little communication other than it’s coming. I’m starting to think they are just stringing me along. Any ideas for recourse other than leaving?

Healthcare job difficulty

Did I make a mistake by continuing in a field “just for money” for a while? I feel like it’s all coming to a crash and I’m struggling. I felt obligated as I ran into tax issues and owe money. I decided to take a travel job out of state and it’s been nothing but hell. I’m talked down to, treated like a child (for not knowing or understanding an ancient charting system), and now I feel like I can’t make mistakes or asks questions. Some of the language from my preceptor: “That’s bad” (when I didn’t do a Covid screen day 2) “You need to refer to the packet I gave you” (first ever question I messaged her about charting, I also already did check the packet) “I’m sorry you get me as a preceptor” (showing her lack of confidence) “I don’t know how to do that..I’ll have to…

Saying No to Extra Hours

I(22F) work 2 jobs and am a full-time college student. A problem I’ve always had is saying “no” to when either job asks me to cover more shifts or extra hours. I’ve tried using the excuse that I couldn’t answer the phone because I was in classes or at my other job(because that’s usually the case)- but it doesn’t work. They do the classic guilt trip of how I will be leaving another coworker all by themselves that makes me feel I need to say yes. Its starting to affect my physical health in addition to mental health. When and how did you all go about saying “no” to your employers and finding a good balance? Any advice you can give? Thank you in advance.

Had an interview where they told me I wasn’t worth what I was asking

I just got let go from a job making $24 per hour, so during the interview I asked for that. The guy said I wasn’t worth that and he could maybe get me $20 which pissed me off enough that I’m no longer interested in the job even if I get it.

Paying agency dues despite not being a part of the union

I started orientation this week for my new job. It’s my first job with an union. Anyone else think it’s weird to be charged an agency fee if you decide to not be a part of the union? The agency fee and membership fee is for the same amount.

Minimum wage is Bull$hit

The fight for increasing minimum wage is BS and is actually hurting workers. It’s just a distraction to keep us not talking about the real fix a MAXIMUM WAGE. minimum wage means nothing without a max as inflation is a byproduct of increased wages or decreased output. STOP BEGGING FOR CRUMBS WHILE THEY EAT THE CAKE.

Declining job responsibilities

I work at a call center. When a caller demands a manager it escalates to a supervisor. Today I had a call escalate. When I called the supervisor to take the call the supervisor declined to take it stating they are a back up supervisor and wouldn’t get supervisor pay to take the call. I am just refreshed that this back up declined taking on a task they wouldn’t get the proper pay rate for.

I Run My Clinic Alone as a MA

I work at a dr office and they currently opened up 2 other locations in the same town. So they are strapped for money (not my problem). There way to solve there money issue is to schedule only one provider and me. So that means I will have to do reception and lab and MA all by myself. While having patients scheduled there every hour. Making 15 an hour. I asked for a increase in pay since I’m now doing 3 roles and was told no they didn’t have any money for raises at this time. So I have to basically run this whole clinic by myself while the NP sees patients I have to do all the leg work. I want to quit.

UPDATE: My boss won’t let me quit to see my sick fiance

Original: My boss won't let me quit to see my sick fiance My boss won't let me quit to be with my sick fiance. My (22M) fiance (21M) currently lives in America, we've been together for 2 years. The plan is that he moves in with me, it's been his dream ever since we started talking about moving in together. I recently got a job at a grocery store, I started off with a year contract with a 2 month trial period. Due to bad performance I got pressured to sign a new contract without being given the chance to read it. This contract lasts 6 months and has a trial period of 1 month. My fiance got very sick, he can hardly breathe on his own. He gets abused by hospital staff for being transgender. I told him that I wanted to be there for him seeing as I'm…

loyalty

Everyone wonders why no one wants to work anymore. How about giving three and a half years to a company and them not giving a crap! Bring the one that is “so reliable” and “always dependable”, but being denied a raise and a promotion because someone who just started there wants to run your name through the mud? Or having a manager that plays favorites and treats an hourly shift leader the same as one of her salaried managers? Hard work and dedication don't mean anything anymore. It's all about who can kiss the bosses ass the best.
