Performance Review and Expectations

I had my performance review yesterday. Everything is exceptional, but I need to work on employee retention. An employee left a month ago because she is going to get paid 26 dollars an hour and we are paying her 18 dollars an hour. Another one just informed me that she is going to leave. She is going to get 22 dollars an hour. How am I supposed to compete with those numbers? I work hard to ensure my direct reports are happy. I make schedules based on their needs. I am frustrated with my job right now. On top of that, I asked for a raise, and he asked me to make a list of why I should get paid more.

worthwhile celebrations

Hello! Somehow I ended up as the chair of my works “celebration committee”. This team plans potlucks, birthday celebrations, work anniversaries whatever. I'm trying to think of ideas for this kind of thing that would actually be worthwhile to the team. I don't have th power to offer additional pay but I also don't want to do bull**** pizza parties. One thought I've had was giving everyone an additional remote day for their birthday…. for context this is a low volume contact center, everyone is hourly, I am not a manager, we are required in person 2 days a week. Any good pro-worker ideas??

Didn’t get holiday pay because I was snowed in on my day off.

My job was closed Friday and Monday for Christmas. Even though I work ten hour shifts, I only got paid for 8 hours for Friday and didn’t get any pay for Monday because I couldn’t come in on Tuesday (my scheduled day off) because of the weather. I’m short about $125 for my Christmas check.

My ex-boss recently viewed my social media, I’m assuming to see where I’m working now. I wish he’d get a life.

I left my previous job in June. I’ve posted about it here before, basically the boss was a narcissistic asshole who made my life a living hell and enjoyed yelling at me until he made me cry. On my last day there he yelled at me over the phone so loud everyone in the room heard him clearly, and told me to post an ad for my job and threatened to bust me down to $15/hour. I quit on the spot and never went back. The next few weeks were full of phone calls from him, his wife, and his lapdog. When I got a new job offer, my old boss got wind of it and called the new company, told them a bunch of lies and cost me the job. So anyway it’s been about 5 months since I started my new job. is this allowed..?

tldr; was fired over health concerns disclosed before hire, now boss is threatening to withhold pay. so for context- i was working as a food prep assistant since the last week of November. i had to leave work early twice (a few weeks apart) about 2-3 hours before my shift ended each time due to a health problem that they knew about prior to hiring me. the first time i was made to feel guilty and forced to apologise formally during my next shift. the second time i was promptly fired, belittled and ridiculed because the GM has severe health condition and “doesn’t sit on her ass and cry about it”. today, one week after being fired, i was sent a text from the GM threatening to withhold my paychecks if i don’t return 1 hat and 1 shirt. is this allowed?

Work place injury, looking for some perspective.

Hi, I am curious to see what you might think of a situation I am currently in. I (F33) hurt my back initially last week Tuesday. I let me employer know and they responded by taking me off my shifts and telling me rest with full pay, no sick time used(salary). I decided not to file a claim last week because I was hoping that with rest/stretching I’d feel better. Well that mostly worked till today when I was back to work. I hurt myself doing the same thing as last week. I decided to open a case with my employer and I have once again been taken off shifts, I assume with pay, as before. They responded quickly without judgement or questions beyond asking what happened. What are some thing I should be on the lookout for or how to protect myself? I don’t want them to turn around…

Job in NY denying employees ability to call in

So this has been going on for awhile but it got worse during Covid. Employee would call in sick, boss would say no, employees were stuck coming to work sick. Some times the person would come in, work their shift and then go to the doctors only to be told they had Covid. So they exposed a whole daycare class to covid. Awesome. I work in the childcare industry. Getting sick comes with the territory. We have a few employees that call out all the time. And we're insanely short staffed so instead of raising wages and hiring workers, we're left being spread too thin because we can't find anyone to work for trash wages. So because they can't deal with the call-ins, we're now being told no one can call in unless they have the flu or covid. We're also being told that a note from Wellnow (urgent care)…

Last paycheck options in California… they’re trying to offer Wisely deposit, mail it or make me go back after my final day. I have a call into HR.

In the state of CA the labor code (section 202) states “if the employee has given 72 hours notice of intention to quit, the employee is entitled to his wages at the time of quitting.” I gave them two weeks notice which means I should be paid at the end of my last shift right?! However, my last shift is in the evening after the boss folks have left for the day. They just emailed and want me to let them know how I want my last paycheck. My options were: •come back for the check •get it mailed •have it Wisely direct deposited (which I have not heard of) I would like to respond and tell them I’ll take my paycheck and pto payout in my hand at the end of my shift on my last day.
