Have to keep those coffers full
I’m not looking for advice or anything, I’m just venting because I feel gross and irritated that I can’t do much. Yesterday I had to text a coworker to get his rsvp for our company holiday party. This dude has always creeped me out and I avoid being alone with him when I have to be near him. He responds that he was “just thinking about” me and that his thoughts would “get him in trouble.” I ignored his gross comments and got the name of his wife (who literally just had a baby) and their dinner order for the event. But he just kept going. He went on (unprovoked might I add) that he wishes he could lift up my dress and pin me against a wall. Walking out?
I often see people at their breaking point who end up walking out and quitting. To those folks, do you normally have a backup plan? What are the exceptions when trying to file for unemployment? (I know generally you have to be fired but even then, they can fight you on it)
Not saying the restaurant name but it's what I saw today. Was I the only one there who seemed concerned? Ok maybe he's not 9, maybe he is old enough, but he looks and sounds like 9. On the chance he was, does the US have any child labor laws? 100 years ago children worked long hours in sweatshops for barley any pay. Are corporations trying to go back there?
A Story of Class Solidarity
Yesterday while at the self checkout for the grocery store, a man approached me and asked if I could buy him some food because he didn't have any money. I thought about it and said sure. I sent him off to grab what he wanted while I kept scanning. The minimum wage workers saw this and, enforcing corporate policy, several of them tailed him around the store trying to get him to leave. When he got to the front, I scanned his items and nicely pushed him out the door so they wouldn't have to deal with him in the store anymore. Funny how in that moment, I was helping him, helping the workers, reducing the stigma of being poor in public, and stealing hundreds of dollars in groceries while they chased this man around for wanting $5 of food to eat. I'm white, he isn't, if that wasn't clear…
