In may I took this job as a hotel bartender and I’m a 1099 contractor so nothing is withheld from my check and the owners aren’t paying payroll taxes. I’ve been digging more into this and I do not furnish any of the product or equipment used in the bar. The owner is also demanding that I keep this TV running even if no one is here. I know it’s a historical building so the whole thing is a massive tax write off for them. The hotel doesn’t usually operate at a profit. It’s extremely small, had only 26 rooms and there usually isn’t a lot of business in the bar except for a wealthy neighborhood nearby. I’m in the state of Oklahoma by the way.

Finally quitting!!
for those who remember my post from about a month and a half ago asking how to quit, hey, good update finally doing it! i got a job at starbucks for 15.75/hr + tips and i’m totally siked for it. quitting tomorrow, hopefully in person. working this week and next sunday, and then im done!!! very excited 🙂
At my job, we do inventory and we just stay after hours scanning stuff and usually everyone is scheduled for that day, no matter what. We got a new boss and she’s been changing scheduled and pushing back stuff without letting anyone know. Our inventory was suppose to me last week. But it got pushed to tomorrow. The problem is that tomorrow I already had a preplanned trip to another state for a funeral and I didn’t have to request the time off since that’s one my days off. She’s asking me to come in tomorrow and since inventory I have to, no matter what. I don’t plan to come in either way, is the at gonna be a problem?

Fast food minimum wage set to 20 in CA.
This is good (not as good as UBI though), but I feel for the people with 5 years at the company making the same as the newbies.
I’m a 5th grade teacher in California.
School started 8/15/2023 and I have not been paid for my work as a 5th grade teacher. I was supposed to get paid on the last business day of August and September.
1988 Life was plentiful!
1988 The year my parents first bought a house. I was 9 years old and thought I lived in luxury! My mom worked at a bank and made 5$ an hour, which was 25 cents over minimum wage, and my dad worked at the local grocery store making just 50 cents more than my mom at 5.50$ an hour. My parents never struggled to make a living in life. They just purchased their first home at $28,600 USD for a 3 bedroom 2,000 square foot home. Both had their own vehicle that cost $2,500. Gas price was just a little over 60 cents a gallon. Not to mention they also had a cabin for the summer time where I would feed the wild life, hike with friends, and play video games in a open glass room that looked over a hill side that you could see forest tree tops for…
I work for a historical agency for my state where we manage historic sites. I’m basically a park ranger. I’ve also worked for the US forest service and it’s also pretty damn awesome. When I worked for the private sector the work environment was always much more toxic as the boss is always coming around to crack their whip on the rest of us. In my line of work you have your basic duties and bigger projects and you just prioritize accordingly. You do your job in a reasonable time, do a decent job and nobody bothers you for the most part. I know that the private sector generally pays better, but most government jobs pay pretty good imo. My opinion is skewed because I’ve spent most of my life poor so maybe take what I say with a grain of salt.
