Employees Are Not Loyal

I recently attended an event about the best businesses to work for in that city. The speaker made a comment how nowadays certain employees will switch jobs over a dollar more, making the point that these type of employees are not loyal. He was an old politician like speaker, you get the point. Im here to say yes, indeed we are not loyal just like how your company is not and was never loyal. In todays market and competition, companies chase a dollar even if it meant laying off thousands of employees per quarter. You know how to play the game, how to play the government, how to play the taxes, how to play the law and lawsuits, how to maneuver and adapt in this economy. We are simply players out on the field at the right time, right place, and at any point we’re taken out or replaced as…

Friend in Hawaii who is only making $15/hr thought he could get a lot of money by doing overtime. He worked 18 hours overtime only to end up having majority of the money taken by taxes. Serves as a reminder that doing too much OT is not worth it.

Suspended without pay 1500 miles from home.

What the actual f@&#!!! My concerns to the team lead and manager about safety were ignored, covered up, lied about, or otherwise explained away. After that was said and done, I was told to suck it up or quit. Now the manager gets a hair up his ass about a different safety concern I couldn't care to mention if it was going to be squashed like the rest and suspends the team. Luckily I've been looking at new career opportunities already but I currently don't have a vehicle or income while stuck in a hotel 1500 miles from my wife and 1800 miles from my parents. People need to decide what matters and have the policy align with it because only caring about one and ignoring the other is the kind of BS I can't stand.

Increase in overtime

I work in manufacturing, just started at a new place, and I'm curious what people's opinions or even suggestions for this situation are. In the I terrier I asked my now boss if there was overtime and he responded just optional Saturdays. The day I started they told me it's 5 ten hour days. Now they had a meeting to tell us that in a few weeks we're going to be changing to 65 hours weeks, 5 elevens and ten hours on saturday. Half the people here are desperate for the mo ey so they're just resigned to it MD the other half are talking about quitting or just not showing up on Saturdays until they get fired. Has anybody else been in this situation, if so how did things turn out after the change?

Might get fired bc I talk to my co-workers every now and again

So I WFH for an ins company. Crazy metrics, micromanaged like hell, etc. it’s a call center so sometimes while I am doing my notes from the the call I was on, I will chat with my co-workers on a call. Since we don’t work in an office, it’s the only human interaction I get when people aren’t yelling at me over shit I can’t control. I’m a top performer, exceed what the metrics are for the job , etc. Was pulled into a meeting today over it and now it’s up to HR what happens. I just wanted to talk to my friends here and there and now I might get fired over it.

Manager is abusive and retaliates by cutting hours

Been working for a convenience store for about a year and a half, super easy job but the store manager is verbally abusive and cuts hours as a “punishment”. Basically she yells and screams (I mean SCREAMS, like a pissed off drunk) at all of us if shes having a bad day or if someone does something to make her day the slightest bit harder. There's been several times (including recently) where id stand up to her and ask her to stop treating us the way she does – and on the very next schedule my hours get cut drastically. I know i should just find a new job, but i actually like this one (aside from said manager) Its close to home, fairly easy and (for a while at least) i get full time hours. But it's like walking on eggshells around this person, she targets me a lot…

Recruiters are just fishing for data

Had a potential employer interview me this morning for a job that doesnt exist “yet”. An hours worth of invasive industry standard questions that have nothing to do with the actual role. The recruiter then asks salary expectations. I ask what is the budget for the role?. Sorry we cant disclose that at this time because it hasnt been established yet so how much do you need? Call me back when you figure out how much you want to pay someone for the roll because im not being paid for this research study. If you want market research do a study, dont create fake job listings just to data mine. The company was McKibbon Hospitality

Subtracting bathroom breaks from regular breaks

Ive been working from home for an insurance company for a year and during re-training I was told that if we use the bathroom throughout the day we have to subtract it from our two, fifteen minutes breaks. the time tracker we use (InContact/MAX) has an option specifically for bathrooms and I usually have to use the facilities in the morning. My question is, is that even allowed? Ive worked for other insurance companies, both in office and from home and they never had a rule like that. The only thing thats changed is the current company im with has a different client. Im not trying to abuse the bathroom system or anything but if you gotta go you gotta go and I dont want to have to find another job over something as dumb as bathroom breaks; any advice?

Researchers Uncover New Pathway for Age-Promoting ‘Zombie Cells’

Theoretically, how would one go about starting a union in NC in the beverage production industry? Is it even possible?

What would that look like, what kind of resources, capital, participation, etc. would be required? I know next to nothing about unions other than that their absence is killing us. As of data from a few years ago, I live in the second-to-last state in terms of union participation. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that a union in the food & beverage industry will ever materialize in this state/region, but might as well arm myself with information… 🤷‍️
