Provided an ADA/FMLA letter of eligibility without asking for one

Hello! I have been struggling with extreme depression and insomnia for 2 years now. However, it has gotten debilitating in the past 6 months. I am a high level director for my company, and have been having to move things around the past few months to make things work. It’s not uncommon for me to be up for 40+ hours at once. Hello! I have been struggling with extreme depression and insomnia for 2 years now. However, it has gotten debilitating in the past 6 months. I am a high level director for my company, and have been having to move things around the past few months to make things work. It’s not uncommon for me to be up for 40+ hours at once.

I used to consider myself a high performer. Now I find that I am having to move meetings quite frequently because I cannot physically stay awake. I was missing days at times but haven’t in the past 3-4 weeks after a discussion with my boss. Unfortunately, it got up to my boss that a few clients had experienced 2-3 reschedules (not proud of it ) with me each in the past few months.

While I don’t feel attendance has been an issue the past few weeks since my discussion with my boss, I was provided a letter of ADA and FMLA eligibility by HR yesterday. I told my boss that I don’t think it’s necessary at this time and thanked her. She told me that she “highly recommended that I do it to protect myself”.

Is this just a formality to start working me out? Have those conversations already happened and this is her way of trying to help me? I don’t give up easily but this is all getting very overwhelming.
