I used to work closely with a lady who was really great to work with. I'll call her Mary. Mary did a lot for the department including training me when I joined and also working with another lady in the office called Sam. We all worked great together for over 5+ years until we all got a new manager, and this manager Pete is just rude. He was very rude mostly to Mary.
I tried to stay out of it, but I could see how Pete was behaving towards Mary, belittling her and her decision making (in front of various people). In the end of most arguments though, she would just let him do as he wanted, as he was the manager and makes final decisions. Eventually Mary resigned. Before Mary left, she trained Pete on most of her stuff, and a little bit to me, but she told me that most of the stuff she's going over is not my job to do, it really isn't. (I'm also a Part timer, everyone else is FT).
Months later I think Pete realized on the extent of work that Mary did, she did a lot more than any of us at times. Many questions would come up and Pete would come to me or Sam to figure them out. I would try to help but like Mary had said, most items she had gone through with Pete and him as manager I would think, should know best. Around 4-5 months after Mary left, Pete hired a new person to take over Mary's job. New person's name Joe. Both Joe and Pete have access to Mary's email, so they have access to everything she did and how she did it. With Joe being new, Sam and I did also show him some of the things that Mary would do and also let him know what is expected as well. I forwarded training docs and names of people to reach out to for questions on certain tasks.I've told Joe in the beginning that some things I really did not know how to do them, as in they were part of Mary's workload that if he has questions, to please ask Pete as he was trained on them or to go ask other people whom I also referred to.
It's been almost a year since Joe was hired and the same questions from Pete on how to do certain tasks that Mary used to do are coming back again. It's just the time of year when certain processes start.
Is it rude/wrong/am I going to get pushback if I let Pete and Joe know again… that not only mine but also Sam's knowledge on these processes/tasks are limited.. that we tried helping early on with this by looking at past emails, but Mary is the one that would give us the steps to do most of these things. And to please reach out to the other people previously mentioned too who know better on these processes/tasks required??
In the end the ones who are paid the most in the dept. are Pete and Joe and Joe should be the one to be doing the Mary's tasks. They both also have access to look at Mary's email but choose not to most times and have me and Sam be searching for answers.
