Reelection tramps heatwave

This is a rant. Also, not in the U.S. My country is in the middle of a heatwave. Yesterday, the temperature was between 40C to 44C. Today the lower is 43C. The government issued warnings and advised people to work from home. They also said no deliveries and no roadworks between 12:00 and 17:00 due to the heat (which helped me yesterday as I worked 08:00 to 10:00). BUT, we have local elections coming (mayors and councils) coming up late September or early October (date not set yet). So every mayor who aims for reelection, has crews out for the last month fixing roads. Yesterday and today, while hitting the shops, I saw roadworks in three different municipalities during the “prohibited” hours. And if by any chance happen to one of these politicians, they would say something like “oh, it's just a guidilne” or “but it has shade where they're…

I know who I'm not voting in local elections. I hope other people in the municipality do the same.
