Who do you talk to when you’re looking for a better job?

I work for the railroad in a position that doesnt have to travel (most railroad jobs have you moving between yards, I just work at the same place everyday). I make about 75k per year (which is the most I've ever made). This place and these people are rotten monsters who laugh and jeer at the suffering of others. They hurl abuse and provocation at every new guy. It doesn't change. I've been here about a year so I'm through the rough parts but this job has an extremely high rate of accidents, breaks down the body pretty aggressively, and I dread every shift (my position is 24/7 oncall, I work random 8 hour shifts). I need to find something else, but can't afford to make less as my income barely meets expenses (Portland Oregon rent). Where do you guys look for jobs? Who do you try to network with?…

Where do you guys look for jobs? Who do you try to network with? How do you find like minded people to work with?
