For this interview I was asked on a Thursday if I was available the following day at 2:00 pm. The day of, I realized I still hadn’t received any sort of confirmation whether this is in person or via phone, so I emailed them and I get this response (picture 2) twenty minutes after our interview would have happened.
The audacity shocked and offended me, so I responded with this:
“This is the first time I have ever applied to a job and not received a confirmation email in return. Any time I receive an email inviting me for an in-person interview I get an email back saying something akin to: “Great. We will see you at that time. Our address is XYZ.” Even if it isn't in-person, I always get some sort of response acknowledging so both parties are on the same page and for the applicant to know whether the interview is in-person or virtual. I had no way of knowing it was in-person and since 90% of first interviews these days are over the phone or via Zoom/Teams/whatever this should have been clarified.
You have a point of me failing to call but since we have corresponded this entire time by email that naturally is what I did. I had no way of knowing you had a busy schedule but it goes two ways, a phone call would have been great to confirm if I was still attending once you realized I was not on time; we could have laughed about the miscommunication and rescheduled. Instead, I am treated like I was supposed to read your mind.
So… Thanks,

I also had an interview this week with a different company where the receptionist apparently reported to the HR manager out of earshot that I was 3 minutes late and did not immediately say hi to her upon walking in and that I just “stared at her.” The reason I waited was because she looked busy and I didn’t want to interrupt her. They confronted me about this and wondered if these were going to be issues.
Also this company was adamant about having a hire passionate about IT even though it was just an administrative assistant position, yet they expected me to know they won’t trust me right away. Huh?? If I only applied to industries I am passionate about, I would be sending out 3 applications a day. You can’t expect me to be passionate about a company I know nothing about but also turn around and say it’ll take a while for me to earn your trust.
Some of these companies are so out of touch, it’s wild to me.
