I currently work at a chemical plant. It is tough, hard work in a hot, unventilated area. I work around and above some chemical tanks that can reach over 100°F. The company has some industrial fans plugged in at different places, but they are just moving hot air around. We have been short handed since Covid. Anyone walking in for a job through our doors will immediately go somewhere else once they see the conditions here. The foreman is on vacation and so is another person so we are super short handed right now. I worked yesterday and it was 89°F outside and over 100 inside. Also keep in mind I have to wear PPE while working. Rubber muck boots, gloves, and a thick PVC apron with a mask and safety glasses on. All while lifing metal in and out of these tanks for 8 hours. So last summer I made the decision that whenever there is a heat advisory from my local weather service, I will call out of work and stay home. It will be less of a paycheck this week, but I'd rather not die on the job.
