Antiwork

The time my coworker got a pair of photocopied boobs delivered to site and my place of work did NOTHING about it.

Brace yourself, it’s a long one. Well starting off, my ex place of work hired this old man for night shift. At the start of his duration working for the company, most of the female staff including myself, got really creeped out by him. He would stare intensely and not really say much apart from a grunt. Time passes and long story short he becomes a very problematic employee, yelling at other staff, going mute, and making up lies about other staff, being extremely picky on how others did their job. To me, he seemed like he might’ve had a mental illness. So I tried to be kind to him, while every other employee decided to not talk to him. I did not want to take sides, as having autism myself, I have always been an outcast and know how that feels. I eventually got a conversation out of him…

I eventually got a conversation out of him and I think we had become acquainted rather than enemies.

(There were a few younger females <20 years old, including myself at the time employed)

Time went by, and he soon decided he no longer liked me, and started making up lies and complaining about me. I was unsure of what I had done as I hadn’t been anything but nice to him.

Some of the other younger females came to me and expressed their concern and didn’t want to work with him alone.

I bought this issue up to the manager, and being a misogynistic 50 year old man, did nothing about it and sided with the creepy night shift worker.

I decided that if any of the younger females became uncomfortable working around him, that I would immediately step in and cover their shift.

Well, the shift before the the night shift guy at about 9.45pm, a shaggy looking lady came in holding some paper. I would also like to preface that there were young children and other customers in the store at this time.

The shaggy lady waddled up to the counter and gave the shift worker at the time a picture of her hands photocopied, and a picture of her boobs photocopied. The worker on at the time became very flustered and kind of froze for a second. The shaggy lady said that these were for the nightshift guy.

The worker put these pictures to the side and continued serving the other customers.

About 45 minutes later the nightshift guy came in, grabbed the pictures and did this disgusting little smirk.

The morning after, the worker told me about the incident. I watched it on the cameras.

I informed the cluster manager and HR, and that this wasn’t the first time the nightshift guy had been creepy and had often sexualised women, even customers that would come in would say he was creepy.

The manager and HR didn’t even seem shocked that a worker had organised a pair of tits to be delivered to his place of work.

I personally was disgusted by this, as was most of the other workers. Nightshift worker would constantly attack others for their level of “professionalism” but It seemed as if he just contradicted himself, as that act wasn’t even an ounce of professionalism.

A few weeks went by and nothing happened regarding that incident. Still, myself and other female employees were VERY uncomfortable around this guy.

months go by. I confronted the manager and HR that I felt it wasn’t good enough that nothing had been done, many staff were shocked and uncomfortable and would want this guy to have some consequence.

The nightshift guy did a whole heap of shifts 70+ hours, so a business that’s short staffed wouldn’t want to reprimand a worker that covered 60% of shifts.

The manager says we are overreacting. I quit this job 5 months ago because of poor management. Female staff still are in contact with me saying that it’s a problem filled workplace.

Do not put up with this behaviour from staff. Leave before something worse happens. I later found out that he got fired from his previous job for harassing women, and that my ex place of work knew this before employing him.
