why are companies advertising higher pay and position available than what they are actually hiring for?!

(This is mostly just a rant) It’s made for an incredibly frustrating process while job hunting and it feels like a huge waste of time and energy for both the interviewers’ and myself. One job, was advertising $18-25/hr for a position I have experience in. It definitely sounded too good to be true since most places are not paying quite that high, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt since they’d likely start at their lowest listed rate as most places do. NOPE. They start at $15, $16 after training/certification/probationary period and you can eventually work your way up to $18 in a year or two. WHAT?!? And today’s interview, they were advertising for $13-17 for a manager/shift lead in training.. it was ACTUALLY an entry level sales position (something I am way overqualified for based on my resume) and starting $9-12 with $13-14 MAYBE with commission.…

In both cases it just didn’t feel right to argue the case that they are falsely advertising the pay and position, so i just thanked them for the opportunity and that I was going to pass. i’m not going to work for a company that misleads people not only from the hiring process but will also sit there and feed you the same lie every other company does that “if you work hard like these employees you’ll be climbing the ladder in no time!” These are the same companies that either hire with intent to fast track select people to management or hire outside of the company. I’m just really sick of today’s job environment, it’s making job hunting incredibly exhausting.
