Y’all are awesome

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this sub. About two years ago, I left a good job of 10 years in big tech (think FAANG level) to work for a medium size company with better growth opportunities. The job sounded great and started great but quickly turned to crap. My department head was extremely mettlesome and my direct boss did nothing to defend us. Meeting after meeting I was told how to do my job down to minuscule details. Then, at the next meeting, I would be roundly criticized for doing what I was told to do. I have never been under so much stress. They put me on a PIP which was complete BS. The problems they noted were tiny, like only sending out meeting agendas 24-hours ahead. Apparently the unwritten rule is 48-hours ahead. Mind you, no one else but me had to meet…

Mind you, no one else but me had to meet this 48-hour deadline. I rectified the problems in a week, but they never took me off the PIP. They just left it hanging there for months. Even HR could not explain why it was still in place and why we had to keep having these BS monthly performance reviews. I told myself that I didn't deserve this. I knew HR quite well because of the PIP and engineered an exit with a severance. I'm happy to say that I networked and was able to secure a job back in big tech working with a bunch of my former colleagues. It has been six months now and things have been amazing. Thank you all for your inspiration. I don't think I would have had the courage to do this without reading your stories. If you are thinking of leaving a crappy job, do it! Be smart and plan your exit, but do it! It's not worth hanging around with people who don't appreciate you.
