You’ve all heard it before (I hope) but it can’t be said enough, and young people need to hear it more since they are more often the main targets to exploit. Take care of yourself. Call out “sick” and take a mental health day. You deserve it.
Met with my boss yesterday to talk about why I did not get a raise/cost of living adjustment in this year’s annual review. After doing a ton of extra work that was not asked of me, and certainly not in my job description, I was told my performance was “not where we need you to be.” Cool. I wasn’t given any training in my first year, and there were no goals or target sales for me to meet. I told them it was nice to hear what was expected of me but it’s disappointing that this is the first time I am hearing it. How can a company put someone in a sales position, fail to support that employee’s success, and expect them to magically be able to perform as well as someone who has been there for 15 years?
So I’m taking a mental health day. 3 minutes after calling out I get a call from boss’s cellphone asking me urgently to call back…. And ruin this warm fuzzy feeling I now have? Not a chance.
