It’s a cycle

Do employers not get that every action in your store cycles back. You treat your employees bad. Employee calls in. Employees are less likely to come in when not scheduled due to poor treatment. Entire shift every other person is overworked. Rinse repeat. If your treat all your employees great and don’t punish people for calling out. Or small things. And make them feel welcome. You won’t be short staffed because when you ask for coverage people will be more willing to come in. 9/10 posts in this sub are employees stuck in the loop posting about the part that is most effecting them.

Anyone else sick of jobs ghosting you?

I've been looking for a new job for several months as my current job has become untenable. I've had dozens of meetings with recruiters that seem to go no where. I have the initial call, they have already seen my resume at this point, and they tell me they think I'd make a great fit, and the next step is to send it to the company or companies they are recruiting for. And then I don't hear from them again. Obviously the company itself wasn't interested, but no notes, feedback, or even just a “Hey sorry they chose someone else.” Just silence. I spent my lunch breaks, and time off filling out application after application, and sending out resumes, and all I get is an email often weeks or months later telling me that they chose someone else but asking me to apply to other roles. Most recently, I finally…

I’m a disabled vet and my job is threatening to write me up for attendance.

What the title says. I have PTSD from service. It's a disability. I'm rated for it and receive compensation through the VA. I'm undergoing some intensive behavioral health therapy and my doctors only have appointments up to 3 p.m. and my work day ends at 3:30 p.m. So I ask off for about 1 to 2 hours a week to go to appointments. Sometimes 4 hours a week. I need these appointments. My marriage is about to fall apart and my husband is only sticking by me with the agreement that I go to these appointments. My episodes are not good. I will not blame them if they leave. It's hard on them. Anyway I work at a major book distributor that sells books through little catalogs that get sent to schools. Think big red dog. I've also been calling in sick on days where it's been really bad for…

Work hasn’t given breaks in 2 years

My job hasn't given anybody breaks since I started there. I'd like to say it's a good job but this fact is unredeemable to me. I have been promoted and I am tbe only team that gives a 1 hour break on a 12 hour shift. Everyone else works through. They all joke about if you take a break you're fired. Now management is saying that if they're getting 1 hour breaks they're not being paid for the 12 hours fully (this is discretionary where I'm from). My question is, and I'm willing to die on this hill for my team members, does that mean they're acknowledging their breaks are going from paid to unpaid? And we haven't bad breaks for 2 years so they have some backpack owed. Does this seem like a fair argument I could take to them?

Walked off the job yesterday

I walked off the job at UPS yesterday. It was my second job. Just had a baby and with him and my full time job I was stretched to thin. Yesterday was going to be my last day anyway. After finishing our usual assignment I was told that they were going to send me to help another crew due to me having the lowest seniority. I refused and told my supervisor that today was my last day and if they wanted to waste my time like that after we were already done with our assignment I’ll just leave and quit on the spot. Supervisor didn’t like my response so he went to his boss. He comes back and basically blackmails me in saying if I don’t stay, then the entire crew has to stay regardless if I quit now on the spot. Me, feeling like I couldn’t do that to…

Just started a new job. Basic decency surprised me.

So I just came from a call centre job where they refused us breaks (had to answer phones while eating,) had bugs, made us come to an office when they could have had it wfh, expected 90-115 calls from me in a 6hr period, and had absolutely toxic work place culture. For example, the last day I was there someone from the other side of the business had this interaction with me: Them; when is your baby due? Me (while smoking mind you!!): uhm, I’m not pregnant? Them: oh. Wow. You look like you’re carrying twins. Pretty sure he got zero consequences. (Don’t worry I’ve reported them to the labour board) My new job however, has 3 weeks paid vacation, 20 weeks of maternity/paternity leave top up (in Canada you get a set number of weeks at 55% pay. This company will “top up” that to 75% pay,) full benefits…

Boss texting me from emergency room to come in

I was recently in the emergency due to a series of severe asthma attacks and a viral infection. My doctor said I need to take it very easy because I barely stand for longer than five minutes without sitting down to catch my breath. I have constant pain and the doctor said not to come into work for two weeks since my job is standing for 8 hours nonstop (except for one 20 minute break) and moving heavy objects. However that didn't stop my boss from texting me from the emergency room and asking when I can come in. The texts started from the first night I was in the ER and they were running tests. I know how bad my boss is so I started texting her and updating her immediately about the situation because she often looks for an excuse to fire people for not showing up, even…

A pleasant surprise. I’ve heard about companies asking for “overpayment” back, but never this.
