The double standard is beyond twisted
I'm feeling some type of way about this. My colleague (we're in the same role, but she sort of mentored me/ I consider her my team leader) I assume will be there to present me with the company's short and long term expectations as far as performance is concerned. I understand the HR (a new person within the company) might not be aware of my performance/all the tasks and responsibilities my current role entails, though I can't help but feel this is some kind of strategic maneuver to make me accept whatever they put on the table out of sheer reverence for this mentor/colleague of mine. It also irks me that no one discusses their salaries openly (although I know for a fact many people with my same contract get more benefits having similar experience within the company) and I know for a fact the mentor is extremely prone to…
Ok, so that's not exactly accurate. Let me set up the scenario – I was supposed to start a new job on Monday. I have been out of the work force for 12 years (had two kids, Dad died from Cancer, husband diagnosed with Leukemia, chemo, COVID – NTI kids for 2 years). My supervisor sends me a text – don't come in. She had a procedure done on Friday, and she's not ready for me to start training. Ok. Fine. No big deal. 5 minutes later, the owner of the business calls and wants me to come in and “wing it,” as he is out of town, and has nobody to cover the store. I have ZERO training. I haven't even filled out paperwork. I have no idea how their computer system or phone system works, I don't even know where office supplies are, and I have no keys…
Remember Oct 15th Strike?
Just wanted to share a story of what happened at my work. I work in a distribution center, it's a big warehouse with multiple departments. A month or two before I started slowly getting the word out and people seemed interested if others were. There were a few things the strike requested but I'm mostly looking at the $20 min wage. A week before the strike, there's a huge meeting where they tell us all the departments min wage was going to $18 from $15. That's great ofc but no one would strike after that. The strike was for a lot more but after the raise no one wanted to. I feel it could have been planned but I could also be paranoid.
If congress and local governments are going to do more to protect the children in the US, keep the kids home. They did it during the pandemic, why not now? Let's create a new social norm!
In some states servers legally get paid below minimum wage because tips make up the rest. I don’t live in one of those states, here in Oregon servers must be paid full minimum wage. Unless they’re banquet servers at a fancy hotel apparently. I just interviewed there, and needless to say I won’t be working there, but is this somehow actually legal or should I contact the dept of labor?
