Looking through job posting in my area I came across one that had the same job title that my father had for most of his career. I sent it to him and asked if the skills required and job description was the same as his. He agreed it was the exact description he worked. He said when his kids were born in the 70s he was making $20-something an hour, plus OT and union benefits. I pointed out this job was paying $15 an hour with no union. It was finally the key needed to prove to him that we are not all complaining just for the sake of it, but because we are not being offered the same opportunities for financial success that they had.
I 24F have had a really, really difficult time adjusting to full-time work life over the past two years. I switched to a new job 6 months ago since I was miserable at my last one, and I thought I would finally be happy. But I don't like this job either and now I feel like I have to stay here for at least another year, and am feeling so stuck and depressed over it. It's just so depressing to spend 8-5 M-F doing something that makes me miserable. Managers scolding me, performance reviews, being given projects with little to no direction – it's so tiring. I'm trying so hard to make my life outside of work more fun, but I'm so exhausted after work that half the time I just go home and watch TV until I fall asleep. I just live for the weekends and bottle up my…
As the title says my previous company has not paid my unused PTO after termination – which was for underperforming metrics not anything like… I cussed a customer out or anything. I was let go at the beginning of April and I'm losing patience. I sent a demand letter on Monday 5/9 via email to my previous manager. In it I asked for the (large global) company to pay me, along with sending me the policy for unused PTO after termination. My previous manager said he'd contact who he needs to and then I never heard back from him or anyone else. The state (TX) I live in does not require employers to pay unused PTO but they do require companies to follow their policies. Now, I have no access to the policies because they were all digital during my 4 years of employment. In my email, I asked them…
Why haven't we gone full V for Vendetta already? What is everyone waiting for? When is enough going to be enough? Why are so many people content with being a wage slave for their masters? How much longer are we going to trudge through life in this broken society that feeds us pure bullshit through the media and tries to cover up all the corruption. How much longer are we going to let this continue? We slave away in thankless jobs day after day hanging on to whatever tiny things we can to keep trudging through another day of slavery. Life doesn't have to be like this. Society can be better. How long until everyone just hits their breaking point and storms out to the streets and demands a world worth living in?
Some texts from ex-boss
Like the title says, I have an upcoming college presentation on why capitalism is a failing economic system. Thought this sub would be a good place to get some opinions in favour of the topic. Any info is appreciated.
If you’re homeless – just buy a house.
I've been watching all of these “finance gurus” on youtube and all they basically do is say “take $250000, buy $1M worth of real estate and let it pay itself off and in 20 years you will have a $2M-$3M property”. An i'm like: YEAH NO SHIT GENIUS I KNOW HOW THE CREDIT SYSTEM WORKS YOU DUMB FUCK WHERE THE HELL AM I GETTING 250 THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM!?! Their response to somethng like this is usually “go wash cars or walk dogs and work a 9to5 and save money and go to garage sales and flea markets and don't buy starbucks and nikes” And then you look online at their biography and their dad is an acountant and their mother is a lawyer and their uncle owns a oil company. It is all a big scam for views on the internet and expensive courses and lectures at lecture halls. These…
