I'm in England, UK. I was laid off form my company with immediate effect a week ago, where they're paying me in leiu for the next three months as per my contract. The problem is that they said I had to immediately give back the macbook pro I was issued, or it would be taken out of the final payment (they're planning on lumping all those 3 months payment into the next pay date in the beginning of May). The issue is that I worked remotely on the other end of the country so they issued a delivery company to collect the equipment a few days after my termination, but my ex employer did not give me the necessary shipping labels until 5-6 hours after the collection had already occurred. Hello. I used to work as a security guard. In 2017 i was patrol driving for a security company. The hours were high, the pay was low, the off days were short and most of the time you were pulled back to work because “somebody got sick”. They monitored us, having to wear a body cam that needs to be activated constantly, for “safety reasons” (they fired an employee for smoking in the car and they were able to discover that, thanks to the cam). 2 things happened that were the reason why i didn't wanted to work anymore. I surprisingly had 5 days off. I booked a plane ticket and visited my girlfriend (back in the day we were a long distance relationship couple). Now he’s treating me like shit and acting like it’s a personal insult to him that I won’t come in on Saturday’s. My father works for the company and it’s close to retiring, the only reason I am still at the company is because of him, I really cannot wait to quit this place and might consider leaving before my dad retires.

30 mins ago I emailed my boss and sent her my letter saying I will be finishing in two weeks, then a following email with a sick note saying I won’t be working those two weeks due to stress and anxiety and using my remaining sick leave as I can’t get paid out for it. Fuck I feel so good right now. I don’t feel nauseous anymore and felt like I’ve just been pardoned from goal. I do have better job to goto which pays more and work far less hours with half the responsibility.

As the title says, what benefit(s) does HR get for bringing in talent cheaply? Or rephrased, why does HR nickel and dime employees? For example, a job in Boston initially offered me 115k base. I knew they were lowballing because a post for a similar job at same company accidentally posted salary range (up to 130k). Negotiations broke down cause a multibillion dollar company didn’t want to pay a few thousand more? Um, HR must do this for a reason. Anyone wanna spill the beans?

I received a job offer over the phone. I asked what the PTO accrual rate would be and they said 5 weeks a year. Then I received a signed job offer and it had 4.6 weeks per year. I emailed back and asked if it could be increased to the 5 weeks. The HR person email me back and said they both messed up and the PTO is actually 4 weeks a year. I said is there anyway we can compromise and keep the offer as it stands..4.6? She said no. Its been so frustrating.

There are lots of stories on here of people who hate their jobs and want to quit. But are there any inspirational ones on people who actually got off the hamster wheel and how they did it?

Nepotism? I work for a small marketing startup company and this situation has been stressing everyone out for the longest time…. Everyone in the team thinks the younger brother is incompetent, lazy, and untrustworthy. All he does is be late to or skip meetings constantly, complain to his brother (ie team manager) about people he doesn’t like (which has had some people transferred to another team), take other people’s credits, mess up things that we set up, exhaust out budget on stupid stuff etc etc… but the big brother is always protective of him and justify his actions to a baffling degree.
