*rant alert* 2 weeks ago i signed a 3 month contract at a local clothing store out of pure despair because i´m drowning in debt and my previous taxi driver job just wasn´t cutting it anymore. I knew i was fucked from the very first day because apparently you are not allowed to sit during the entire time aside of ONE 30min break. I have fucked ankles from skateboarding and standing for long periods of time is extremely painful for me even in good shoes. Worst thing is started binging again both on food and alcohol after having a good diet and workout routine for a few months. I miss working out so much but now even on my days off i barely find the strength to do basic tasks around the house. Also I can´t sleep more than a few hours because my fucking feet hurt so much so…
Month: May 2023
I drove an hour to get my iPhone fixed. The guy at Best Buy said there is no tech that can fix iPhones, because they both put their two week notice in at the same time. To the techs that quit and weren’t able to honor my appointment… good for you. The back of my phone is still broken. But what can I say… the revolution is messy!
Reward them
As it stands in a capitalist system, where our world operates on the premise that survival must be earned and is not an inherent human right (even though it's completely within our ability to change that), I think breakthroughs in generative AI will simply make inequality soar to never before seen heights as it makes the rich richer and decreases quality of life for literally everyone else. This seems like it'll be a recipe for revolution. And that's not even getting into things like: it's that same 1% continuing to wreck the planet despite all the warnings that it'll kill us all, using money bribe politicians into complacency, designing systems that make it nearly impossible to not be a part of exploitation, already exploiting much of the world's population for no reason other than to make more money, etc. What are your thoughts? Do you think generative AI could be…
New ideas for calling out
No pets here
I recently helped one of my managers finish a deadline and had to do some overtime. That same week, I was getting an MRI as a follow up to make sure that the radiation therapy I received prior for my thyroid cancer didn't travel anywhere else. My place of work uses BST timesheets. When I submitted my hours there was an error saying I cannot do PTO and OT, so I removed the evidence of PTO. Is this right? What do you think? I think it's somehwat unreasonable.
FMLA violations
I recently took a month of FMLA. Before I went my boss was begging me to stay saying doctors don't know what I needed and that it would be better for me to work through the month. After I returned he has denied my already approved 1 day of pto because I just took 30 days off. This wasn't a vacation it was federally protected FMLA. I'm not sure if I should lawyer up or report to the DOL but something needs to be done.
So much respect
You guys are great and I respect what this community is about so much. The upper class in the US abuses and reuses the people that are stuck between a rock and a hard place. And yet… you keep chugging along. I was born into a fortunate place, and I still struggle on a daily basis. Life is tough, really tough, and I feel like I’m living in easy mode. Congrats. If you’re reading this you may hate your job, you may be temporarily stuck, but you’re smart enough to know what’s happening, you’re smart enough to talk about the things that are bothering you, and you’re probably a tough son of a bitch. Enjoy the little things. Work hard (but only what they pay you for lol) but play harder.
