So I've been out for the last 3 months on an injury mostly caused by my negligent boss, but he's just far enough removed from the situation that I can't touch him, legally. I've been getting comp checks and it's been AWESOME. I've just been able to relax, pursue my hobbies, and actually find joy in life. Y'all, humans aren't built to work like we are currently. I never realized how bad things truly were until they were good, and now that I'm back to having to work, I'm fucking miserable. This job I have, it's taking a toll on my life and my family. My wife called me yesterday sobbing because she hates my job more than I do. We have to fix this shit.
I’m speechless
We are going backwards
Am I an asshole?
For context this is a shitty minimum wage retail job, I had worked there for a little bit but not long. I’ve gotten a better “real job” that’s monday through friday with weekends off. I have been getting scheduled both days on the weekend at said retail job resulting in 7 day work weeks. I just miss spending time with my family and figured it was healthier to have a break. I enjoyed the crew there and feel pretty bad, but at the same time i don’t think it’s fair to try to guilt me into coming in still when I had already resigned, in a nice way at that. Considering how many people quit with no notice or just don’t show. Am I in the wrong here? Because i feel super bad :/
First, my name is not Justin but they corrected themselves a few minutes later. Second, why did it take me having to confirm a couple hours later? Would've been nice for them to say something to confirm after I said I was available. We'll see how the interview goes.
So I look at my schedule, see I have two days off in a row beginning of next week. AWESOME. got two days off at the end of next week. Also awesome. But… Wait. I look at the weeks together, and I'm working 6 days straight, 3 on one week, 3 on the other. Since the days are split between 2 pay periods as defined by my employer, even though I'm gonna work 48 hours in less than 7 days, none of it is overtime. This is like the third job that has done this and it feels like the whole purpose of overtime is defeated when my employer can just cleverly rig the schedule to still work me 6 full days straight without being required to give me overtime. It feels like this should be illegal. My work week begins when that first day starts and doesn't end for…
It’s a holiday weekend and I’m still so upset by a phone call yesterday that here I am venting on Reddit. I work for a giant corporation. I have a new big client that pays us 3 million a year to do various stuff for them. I’ll spare boring details. My team is extremely small and we need double the manpower to complete all the work and I have been saying this since we won this new business 5 months ago. Three of us have been busting our butts and working 12 hour days (no overtime when you are salary) to make sure everything gets done. Yesterday I was told that I have performance issues which may lead to a performance improvement plan. Never in my life has something like this happened. I am a rockstar at my job when the workload is reasonable or even overloaded but this is…
The joys of working a minimum wage job
Including the old saying if you got time to lean, you for time to clean. Always something to do even if Management is doing nothing themselves. Computers at desk is what it says that is shined out.
