I'm so tired of working 40 hours a week and literally not being able to afford my bills! Is there a way for me to work from home but for a company in Europe or somewhere that will appreciate me and pay me enough to live? Will I need to pay taxes to the us? Is it even possible to work from overseas for a company full time? I'm not going to post my whole sob story on Reddit but the way things are going I just don't know where else to go…if you know of someone who would hire me or if you want to give me a chance please let me know what I can do!
Month: July 2023
Context: Union graduate student workers were rallying for a living wage by writing messages in washable markers and chalk. Many departments are hiring grad students less than 50% (50% is equivalent to 20 hours a week) to avoid implementing the full contract that included pay increases. To those who are unionizing, about to strike (UPS!), or implementing contracts, stay strong!
I need some advice. I work as an accountant for a corporation and the situation has deteriorated quickly. I NEED to get out of there but don’t have the money to quit without another job. I did get another offer for significantly less than I’m making now. Do I accept and keep searching?? I need money to eat. I feel like a scumbag if a better opportunity comes along a month after working at this new job. I don’t know what to do at this point as no situation seems to be a great option.
It’s not the boomers fault.
I was just thinking that it isn’t reasonable to blame an entire generation due to them being beneficiaries of a particularly prosperous period of time. It’s true that they have certainly benefited but seeing as the standard they enjoyed is what we are striving for, why would we begrudge them being afforded the opportunity to enjoy it? Additionally, using generalisations to disparage an entire generation is inherently anti productive as the narratives are often all encompassing and defeatist but success in my opinion success is found in the nuance.

Ghosted by potential employer
Just a rant… I applied for a job similar to the role I have now – actually less pay – and got a phone interview scheduled for 5/31. The interview went well and I was asked to come to the office for an in person conversation which I did on 6/8. That interview also went well as far as I was concerned as I had some specific skills they were looking for and I was told I would be a great fit. It was explained to me that there were a few additional candidates that were scheduled for interviews for the following week but that they would be in touch. I hadn't heard anything after that following week so I sent a follow up email directly to the controller (who interviewed me) just wanting to see if they had decided to go with another candidate – if they did, no…
Got let go from a job I had for 3 days
I’ve been out of a job for over a year due to a neurological injury that causes my right arm to sporadically spaz out of control (certain situations make it worse). Finally, I got a new job at a Liquor store. The owner and staff were (still are) very nice and understanding. My arm spazzed out many times during shift, but nothing that caused any complaints, damage, or injury. I felt like I was doing well at the job, but then my boss comes up to me with an envelope. He tells me that one of his prior hires that worked for him awhile ago wanted to come back, and he hired her. I got my check for 3 full days of work, and now I’m looking for a job again. Any advice on what to do going forward? Already looking for other jobs, and my boss told me I…
I work for a company that has both corporate offices and remote workers. When I applied and accepted my position it was posted as a “home based” position. Other positions will list the Address of employment, most often the Comapny HQ. Recently I have been told that the company will be requiring all remote employees to begin in person work in the corporate office. I live ~1.5 hours away from the corporate office and this kind of commute would not be sustainable for me and my home life. Not to mention that I took the job viewing the WFH aspect of it as part of my compensation. I'd like any advice from others who have experienced something similar, and if the relocation of your job is something I'm protected against? Company is HQ in OH and I also live in OH if that matters Thank you
Hi! I have left the toxic workplace over a year ago and I’m recently helping a friend at their company to help with their office morale. I was wondering if anyone could share some ideas of what worked or didn’t work. They are adding higher wages, hybrid flexibility and more pto so I’m looking for fun events/ideas. My old work place used to buy everyone thanksgiving dinner ingredients, sponsor a softball team and coffee cards.
