My office manager (at a doctor’s office) told me this morning that when we check in patients, we need to be very careful about demographics, co-pays, and deductibles (even though we’re not really cashiers) because we’re about to get written up if there are continuous errors. My main question is: Should I share this with my other two front desk coworkers? One of them, which I do not particularly care for, is always talking about she just doesn’t listen to the rules and has been there a long time and shouldn’t have to do any of this stuff (which I don’t necessarily disagree with). The other is really young and is funny and nice and great with patients, but she also has been here about a year and has the same questions that she only asks me and not the other one. I DO enjoy working with her but she…
Month: August 2023
In early January, my husband found out his company would be closing the local office and he would either be laid off, or could transfer to another office, which would result in us moving to another state. Feeling like that was our best option, we took the leap and moved. Mind you, the only assistance they provided was $5000 to break our lease. We spent nearly $10k of our own money for this move. Here we are 3 months in, and it’s been absolute hell for my husband. He was in a management position at the previous office and now, he’s working under the woman who runs the office in this location. It’s clear she immediately felt threatened by him, and is afraid of him outshining her, so she’s been deliberately doing things to make him look bad. For one, she purposely leaves him out of important meetings. She refuses…
A doctor I work with is sexist
This person made a public Facebook post blaming all broken homes and every struggling single parent on the opposite sex. This person thinks all people like me should be “microchipped to track their behavior” to make sure we’re not getting out of line. Do I have any recourse or should I just ignore it?
30M, pivoted into Software Engineering — I've been doing it professionally for a little over 3 years now. Working for a decent startup with its headquarters in the heart of the city, open office space, and stunning views. Fairly decent pay so far, on the low scale but OK. Before that, I was working in construction and taught myself how to code because I wanted to get out of the construction laborer grinding. Now I want to know if there's a way out from here —from a white-collar well paid corporate prestigious role— because I feel like a slave. I would say “I want a fully remote job, or work on my own, or have my own company so I can work from anywhere and have a flexible schedule”, but I'm suspicious that it might be the exact same slavery but slightly different. I'm a fairly creative person, but lack…
Called out due to kids being sick
For context I called out this morning because my twin kids who are barely 2 years old were having fevers and coughs all through out the night so not only did I not get enough sleep I have 2 kids that are obviously not feeling well. I call one of my 3 managers to let him know and you can tell he’s irritated that I can’t come in. I ask him if I can bring a doctors note for it to be excused… he pauses and draws a long breath saying yeah that’s fine but it’s still gonna be an unexcused absence becau I’m just now letting them know. I’m sorry I can’t predict the future and give you guys 2 weeks notice that my kids are going to be sick on said day. They might be irritated with me because I had to leave abruptly from work 2 weeks…
But in all honesty, who would want to work construction where laws are being made to get you killed by denying you basics like water in ridiculous high heat.
I live prohibitively far to be in the office everyday. My boss knew that when he hired me and the agreement was always that I am in office on an as-needed basis. Usually about 7 days out of the month. My boss told me last week that he will be forcing me to go part time along with the associated pay cut because he no longer wants me to wfh. He said I’m “so much more productive in the office.” It’s just patently untrue, although I doubt he’s actually looked at the numbers. I retain a high level of productivity regardless of location— according to our KPIs, I alone am as productive as everyone else combined. It’s his business and it’s a right to work state, so he can do whatever he wants. He can cut the most productive person in his company for any reason or no reason at…
I came to this company in Utah because they seemed so nice to begin with. They would always brag about how they have very few turnovers and are have employees that have come from all over and love it here. They seemed so nice when I met them on my interview! On my first day I realized how big of a mistake I made, hearing my boss literally screaming profanities in the next room while “correcting” some of my work. Of course he never said it to my face, but how could I not hear it? On the same day he begins to hate on the LGBQT community. I am not apart of this community but I prefer not to hear hate fueled words/statements, regardless of who they are pointed at. They are constantly belittling other races and making karate noises every time they bring up Asians. My wife is…
My control freak boss keeps getting on my case for being on my cell phone despite it not having any impact on my work. G-chat and WhatsApp are firewalled on the work computer. For the most part I just want to be able to message my husband during the day.
