Employees asked to take a personality test for fun!

They want them to use 16personalities and share the results. These personality test sites are out of control, promoting their services like a horoscope. One actually sends out a daily newsletter to help you tackle your day. The main problem is HR could be using this as a way to evaluate their employees. If you're in sales, you certainly don't want to come up introverted. I'm not sure if I should bother trying to argue the risks or just ignore it altogether.

Request to join a meeting when I’m OOO

It makes me unreasonably mad nowadays when messaged to join a call when I’m on vacation. I used to be the type to be willing to join calls during vacation down time or if there’s critical work happening, but not anymore now that management hasn’t bothered learning what it is we do or training someone else to backfill if someone is out. Anybody else feel this way?

… I believe the children are our future

I work at a small company whose senior management is peppered with crazy workaholic Boomers who refuse to retire. These people work seven days a week and don’t understand boundaries. They are also monologists who don’t listen, can’t use technology, and treat everyone around them like the help. They are beginning to have trouble keeping employees. While the middle aged people like me just put up with it, the young people don’t. Just this week another junior person abruptly quit, and said she refused to be treated rudely by her boss’s boss. Just want to say: Young people, don’t back down. You inspire me every day!

Ghosting a Job

How do you get over the anxiety of ghosting a shitty job. I’m in my early 20’s and already told them i don’t want to work as a host ($11 an hour) and i only want to serve and want more doubles. They gave me doubles as serving the mornings and hosting evenings….when i said doubles i meant serving the whole day but they don’t have another host so they don’t care. They forgot to add auto grat on a 10 top with $250 the other day. I already secured a new job. I have a shift at said shitty restaurant starting right now. I feel bad ghosting though. Need support. PS: This job requires you to tell them why you’re calling out. the other day i called out due to diarrhea (lie) and apparently you’re not supposed work for at least 24 hours if you have it. They wanted…

Customer went straight to racist route experiencing slight inconvenience.

I had my last name in work email that can be easily identified as Asian; so he replied with translation of “do you understand?” in Chinese. He’s not tech savy enough to figure out PDF on his phone but just enough to use google translate. I have his full name and he’s not asian whatsoever. Come on, i just need a PDF document filled and signed. it’s not that hard. 🙁

Millenial Homeownership? Try this one weird trick! (class action wage settlement)

If I could give one piece of advice to everyone in this sub: ignore anyone telling you it’s a waste of time pursuing legal remedies against your employer. In 2019 I started working in a tip-based position for a company that had expanded out of Las Vegas into Massachusetts, where I lived. Now as one might expect for a brand new branch, staffing was a little bit chaotic, and overtime was given out freely. Of course Massachusetts differs from Nevada in several key ways, one of which is requiring overtime to be paid out at 1.5 times the HOURLY minimum wage for all staff, with no exception for TIPPED employees. Thus, an employee with a tipped hourly of $5, would get paid overtime at $22.50 an hour. Of course it took a concerned coworker to notice the discrepancy, but 18 months later, triple damages minus attorney fees I got a…

Christopher Hedges is Reporting on the war by Corporations and Wall Street against the Working Class

The country’s major corporations, seeking to crush union organization, have filed legal papers to shut down the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the federal agency that enforces labor rights and oversees unionization efforts. Elon Musk’s SpaceX as well as Amazon, Starbucks and Trader Joe’s have targeted the NLRB after it accused Amazon, Starbucks and Trader Joe’s of breaking the law in battling against unionization and accused SpaceX of illegally firing eight workers for criticizing Musk. https://chrishedges.substack.com/p/the-chris-hedges-report-with-les

Boss is dangling the carrot of promotion for extra assignments, but no pay-off, yet.

Just venting, possible advice needed. I'm a Senior Engineer with a large, multinational chemical company. The previous Principal Engineer left the company 2 years ago. We also lost 2 other Senior Engineers within that month to transitions, so I was doing the work of 4 people. It took 10 months before 2 replacement engineers were hired and complete training. I was the only person on call, weekend and nights during that time, including Hurricane coverage during 2 storms (near miss, thankfully). Since then, I've started taking on the Principal Engineer's tasks and leading an LSS Black Belt project. None of which is in my job description. When I agreed to the BB project and the Principal Engineer's tasks last October, I told him I expected a promotion to Principal Engineer. 2 weeks ago, during our one-on-one meeting, I reminded him of the tasks I had accepted and the promotion. He…

Company with 30 interns and 6 staff members.

Just did a brief interview today for a potential internship despite considering myself overqualified for an internship position at this stage. I joined because I thought it was an interesting company but the red flags were many and immediately apparent to me: they have 6 people working for the company and 20-30 UNPAID interns working for them at once. upon asking, they have no open positions and do not plan on hiring the interns, with no track to hire after. they plan on “sharing any job in the industry that sounds cool” with their interns. They might know someone to refer them. the person overseeing the interns (1 person) is responsible for overseeing all intern departments from graphic design to social media to marketing to business. Where is the growth potential to learn? they have a number of major names/companies listed on their site but upon asking what they did…
