Boss wants us to go to rotating shifts

We've had set shifts and days off for several years now. Recently newer employees were hired and the call in rate has risen. Management finally got fed up and decided that everyone needed to work rotating shifts, rotate their weekends off, and no set days off. Naturally most of us are furious, with a few people who “will do whatever management asks” as if this is the only job in the world. There's been a lot of discussion over the past few days, but one of the managers said to a coworker “this isn't a union”. Oh. Oh. So now a bunch of us are organizing a possible strike or walk out if our demands aren't being met.
