Worked at a race facility for about a year, maybe 2. A few months before I quit, there was a huge management change. Old manager who trained me and “took me under his wing” had left for better opportunities.
New management was a mix of promotions from within and some being “buddy buddy” with other management who were already there.
Buddy buddy guys, came in and turned the place upside down. Being as they were just friends with others, they had no idea what they were doing. No idea about the facility, about general rules to racing etc. Just plain incompetent.
A few months in, I was I guess, one of the senior most employees left there still. I knew the place inside and out and could run high level events by myself. But I was treated like shit by the new buddy buddy management this entire time. I was already looking into leaving at this point but wasn't going to just drop it without something lined up.
But then the day I left. I was the only one scheduled for the first 3 hours of the day, no problem because I can pretty much do it myself anyway. Granted its a pain in the ass but doable. Buddy buddy's come in at about 1 in the afternoon, must be nice. They get there and start getting on my case about stupid stuff that ive never had to or should be doing. Wrappers on the floor, windows not wiped down. Floors not moped. None of this is my responsibility as I work on the track, not as maintenance or janitor. Buddy buddy 1 just won't let it go, starts freaking out that hes going to get write me up, fire me, I'm dumb and lazy etc etc W.E I shrug it off as I know for a fact he couldn't handle what I do everyday.
2 o'clock comes around, I finally go on lunch. However, I forget to clock out. I call buddy buddy manager 1 to let him know I forgot to clock out. He answers the phone, not with hello, or hey whats up or anything like that he answers and goes “yea what the fuck do you want”. I respond, “well I forgot to clock out when I left for lunch and wanted you to just clock me out, but you know what, don't bother, I won't be coming back, you and your attitude can do the job yourself”. Hung up the phone, ate my lunch and drove home.
They called me like every other day for about 2 weeks to come back. Offered me more money, like .50 cents more. I laughed at them, said the ONLY way I'd be coming back is if I'm given $5 an hour more, buddy buddy 1 is fired amd I'm given that management spot. They would not agree, so I told them to stop calling me.
