Help please explaining inflation!

Hi! For reference, my husband and I live in northern California, where the minimum wage is $15 – far above the federal minimum. My husband is complaining that ever since, prices have sky rocketed, but I’ve been trying to explain that 1) the inflation happened before the wage hike and 2), after adjusting for inflation, the real wages are still lower and therefore not the problem. Could someone please point me to some research to help explain this to him? I think he’s just ignoring my arguments because I’m angry about being exploited by my bosses (which I have been) and because traditional economics says that the two are linked (which yes, they are, but that’s not tue current driver of the inflation), so fact-based external information would help me convince him that I’m not just standing on a soap box! Thank you in advance!!

Normalize 4 or 3 Day Work Weeks!

We should come together as a country and agree that working Monday – Thursday should be considered full-time, but also that working only Friday, Saturday, & Sunday is also considered full time. Basically split the week in two and give people the option to decide if they want to work four days and have traditional weekends off, or if they want to, work 3 days for the same pay as the 4 day guys, and then have four days every week off. It would be amazing for families that can't afford childcare: Mom works Mon-Thur, Dad works Fri-Sun, so there's always someone to watch their kids and both parents make full time money. If you're an eager beaver and want to work 2 jobs, or work and go to school at the same time, and you're okay with working 7 days a week, this would actually make life easier for…

WHAT DO WE DO??!

It’s been said. We need higher wages. Better labor laws. Healthier work environments. Lots of things have been said. Government knows we want these things. Employers know we want more money. Nothings changed. So now what? I mean let me me lay this out. What keeps this country running? Well, what did we keep open during the shutdown? Fast food. Grocery. Retail. Blue collar jobs. Jobs that pay unlivable wages…… sorry at this point my mind was overwhelmed with the fucked up shit in the 21st century. Let’s pick up here. People who run America are paid the least and treated the shittiest. Americans love getting fast food but yet despise the employees working to give them their food. Oh but when the employees leave , and they no longer can get their food in 3 minutes, they also despise that. It’s an absolute mind fuck. “We need you to…

If you think we don’t live in a fascist state, then start saying it out loud-the only way out is through action

Complain all you want about the state of things, your voting won't change it. Strikes do. Labor unions do. Organizing does. Seizing the means of production isn't a meme its a threat. Fucking use it as such

Money isn’t the only thing that can make you feel value at work

Recently I was contacted by a recruiter on linked in that was trying to poach me over to another company, they have talked through how much better it was and that they would guarantee they would better my current salary. Well they did put an offer in originally that offer that actually matched my salary l, which I declined. They then offered an additional 5k to try convince me. I declined again. The reason is at my current role, I have a fantastic boss that continues to make sure that his staff are looked after, heard and treated with genuine respect. I really look at them as a role model to how to treat my staff. The old cliche holds true that employees don't quit jobs they quit managers, so when you find one that has your back and treats you with respect it's a job worth holding on to.

Arizona public schools: “Do we ask our people to work for free for the last few months of the year?”

The Arizona State Legislature is refusing to allow school districts to spend more money than they were originally allocated in 1980, even though the revenue (which was generated by taxing the very wealthy) has already been overwhelmingly approved by Arizona voters. This has happened before and has never been a problem, but now, apparently, the Legislature of the great state of Arizona is playing footsie with the idea of seeing what would happen if schools went bankrupt on March 1st. A quote from a literal news article is: “'Basically, we’d have to cut two months worth of operation from our budget starting in March. Look at our options. Eighty-five percent of our budget is salary and benefits. Do we ask our people to work for free for the last few months of the year?' said Hector Encinas, the CFO for Sunnyside Schools.” I hate to say it, but I will…
