I stumbled onto this article. It's titled, “toxic phrases highly insecure people use.” Then proceeds to list phrases used almost exclusively to address concerns in a toxic work environment. The article paints the clearly distressed individual that would use said phrases as lazy. It then advises that coworkers refuse to comfort or offer support to their distressed colleague. Instead, you should “interrogate them,” “refuse to accept excuses,” “poke holes in their postion,” and repeatedly pressure them saying that “excuses and claims, and claims need to be proven.” It's isolation and gaslighting 101. https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2023/05/11/psychology-expert-shares-toxic-phrases-highly-insecure-people-always-use-and-how-to-respond.html
Stolen from another sub but thought it would be appreciated here!
It really is a story to read about how corporate has transform a job embedded with everyone's to a gig economy meaningless underpaid task. It is a must read.
Which is which
I’ve been in this job for more than 2 years but I still don’t know how to work around my supervisor. She. Doesn’t. Delegate. Never thought I have to deal with someone like this. She always complains about having a lot of workload but she tends to do everything! Even the smallest tasks. It’s like if we do a task, we’re over stepping and if we don’t, we don’t have the initiative. Fckn sucks.
So, what about legal sabotage for a start ? You know… Quiet quitting, voluntary untrackable mistakes, sending fake applications in order to make HR work for nothing… https://preview.redd.it/ycjqf01ntcza1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=e64f99cc89bba7113cf9a1c05748fc713694cd67
Is it some power fantasy that they play into? Asking you a question you had no idea was coming; they did not prepare you for; and that they expect an immediate response. Being prepared is one of the main characteristics of anyone with their shit together. Yet these interviews are always trying to catch people off-guard. What would be so wrong with them sending you an exact list of question that will be brought up. Is it because they don't want you to research something, and expect you to recite what you already know? Because if so, that's the dumbest perspective to have. What's wrong with someone learning something one way or the other? I'll get something like, “tell me a challenge you overcame in the workplace”. So you want me to dig up the most impressive thing I've ever done, from past jobs I've left in the past, and…
Honestly some people just want to complain just for the sake of complaining or to feel superior and to belittle you. (There wasn’t anything big that he complained about on the group it was all tiny things)
I’m working my tail off as a supervisor at a vital/medical-related 501(c)3 and I have to admit that it’s disheartening when nobody recognized the hard work and sacrifice I’ve contributed. I guess I feel undervalued and just wanted to vent. I get it’s a non-profit and I don’t expect to make bank. But our staff has less than 10 members and I didn’t even get a pat on the back, and a raise would simply be a miracle. 40 hours a week to barely pay a mortgage I can’t really afford. Love the workforce! Should I stay? I take pride in the work
