Is it worth it?
Hi everyone. For some context, I’m a 17 year old. Recently I was hired at a new location for a sports bar. I also recently came down with strep throat, so I have had to miss the last two days of training. Yesterday when I said I would not be able to make it because I could barely speak (talking to customers is a large part of my job), they told me “well then, the way I’m hearing this, this sounds like an unexcused absence.” Today, I called off again. I can barely stand, it hurts to talk, I’m stuffy, and my response time is extremely delayed. They told me “well you’ve missed two days of training, tomorrow we’ll call you and have a discussion about it.” In all honesty, the way they handled it makes me not even want the job anymore. It’s not my fault I’m sick. It’s…
I posted on this sub about a month ago saying I had left my job due to being harassed and other toxic work conditions. It was a skeleton crew there, and still is from what I’ve heard from people who still work there. Thank you to everyone who supported me on that post. You all are awesome, and completely helped me shift my perspective. I found a new job! (Yay!) I’m working on a field that I’m very passionate about and I’d love to work here as long as I can, but why is everywhere I go so completely under staffed? Management keeps admitting patients, and not hiring on new people. Last night we got 4 patients when I was one of only 3 working. One doing intakes, the other med evals, and me supervising the rest of the floor. I know everyone has been here before. How do you…
the audacity of some.
i told my boss i was sick and throwing up and he asked me to come in anyway. “hey, i’m really sorry for the short notice, but i’ve been throwing up. i’d hate to get anyone else sick, so i think it’s best i don’t come in today.” for context, i work at a restaurant bar. he is the general manager. i told him this morning, 2 hours before my 9am shift, that i’ve been throwing up. he said, “i can put you on expo instead of serving. i really need you this morning.” expo is essentially a position where you dress plates & pass it to servers so they can run it to their tables. it is now 10am and i’m ignoring his text. i don’t even know what to say to him. i’m outraged and i have so many words to say to him, but instead i’m just…

Ok like the title says I’m a college student about to graduate and am trying to find a job. I’m not sure if I’m just inpatient or unqualified or if the job market sucks right now. I have applied for probably 2 dozen jobs at this point, some in my field, others not so much, and I have had one interview (could not take the job though), gotten two rejection notifications and that’s it! I’m getting sick of applying to jobs because I feel like I’m throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. No one is getting back even with a simple ‘Not interested’ email or whatever. So many entry level jobs want masters degrees, years of experience and other skills that seem pretty ridiculous for an entry level position. I know I’m ranting but I’m just getting annoyed already and I haven’t even had a real job…
