I have recently figured out that I am disabled. I busted my ass for over 6 years keeping full time jobs that were incredibly toxic because my parents and everyone else kept saying that it's what you have to do to make a career. I am a college graduate and no job has ever offered me any kind of pay that would allow me to move out of my parents' house. Now all these years later my body is messed up and severe burnout has left me in a bad state. I had to quit because I'm disabled by chronic illnesses. I'm very thankful for my parents support and I know I'm extremely lucky to have their support. However my dad, who has been retired for a while now, just started doing contract work. Partly because he's bored and partly to help pay for my medical expenses so I don't…

Bait and switched thrice!
I’m not even mad, I think it’s hilarious at this point. Interviewed for a sales position with a recruiter. He tells me: “We’re looking for a closer. The beauty of this company is that your only duties are to close the appointments you’re sent on. Ops teams find leads, vet those leads, and set appointments for you. They also handle everything post sale. You JUST have to close.” Fine. Sounds interesting, usually I do everything from prospecting to being a point of contact after the sale as well. Fast forward to the second interview with some sort of a director. “So your first two weeks are in office training, and then you have two weeks of going door to door just to learn how the entry level guys do the job. Also you’d be running one appointment every Saturday, but after six months in the role, you can opt out…
21M here. Almost finished with college, sometime within the next 1-2 years. Eventually, just like every other insignificant human, I'll have to slave off to the system for over 40 years to continue my survival. I am now well aware that this is my life's purpose. I was put here to be a servant of the Matrix and provide it with my labor. And when I say the phrase “wage slave” I'm not only referring to workers that live pay check to pay check. Anyone that needs a job in order afford their survival is a wage slave. I don't care if I make 6 figures a year. If I'd be homeless and broke without it, then I'm still a wage slave. This realization hit me so hard that I don't enjoy most of my hobbies anymore. The only thing I enjoy nowadays is jerking off and smoking weed. I…
How should working work?
Genuinely what is the alternative to normal work?
paid lunches
So I started this new job. They have a large fridge stocked with sandwich things, yogurt, fruit, and frozen meals, they buy this all for the employees. It's free. You just don't clock in or out for lunch and you work while you eat. I make a sandwich and look at emails while I chew. I do not like this. I've always had a 30 min lunch break. Everyone has their own office aside from the front desk receptionist. On Fridays they cater lunch (burritos from Chipotle or pizza etc) the Friday lunches are awesome and a nice perk…. But the other 4 days of the week… It feels wrong.
Too much truth in the antiwork thread
I can't read the antiwork thread because to be an employee, i need to lie to myself. I need to become stupid. Being an employee is depressing. You're required to give 1000% of yourself all the time. All your bills are dependant on your employer. You have to sign expensive leases and mortgages while relying on a company that can fire you yesterday or any day for any reason. Your only option as an employee is to find a new employee that will end up being the same.
I left the office after that meeting and went about my day and went to appointments. I didn’t see or speak with him the rest of the day.
Dang . . .
Background: My former workplace, took $250 tips from me in a span of 1 year. Tips were recorded on my earned wages but not added to the paystub. My boss deducts taxes from my whole salary and that's without the tip, the tips I never got. I live in Hawaii. I looked up the regulations on how to report wage theft. Well in Hawaii, it's basically not wage theft because I'm earning the minimum wage so the tips don't matter. I also called the IRS to have them audited but they said that it's a very low tip amount and not legible for audit. This workplace really wrong me. They are verbally abused and harassed me. They also did so much unimaginable abused towards me. There's also many nepotism and favoritism. There's also some sort of racism that Asian employees quit the workplace. I quit back in December 2022 because…
