I help with recruitment at a service business. I basically screen/interview 100s of applicants by phone, and invite them in for a trial shift (with a senior staff member) to see if they are a good fit. When the trial shift is over and it’s time to decide if we will hire, my boss (who will never speak with or meet the applicant in person) will instantly get paranoid and say “I have a bad gut feeling about this person, I know they are only wanting to work here to steal my ideas and start a rival business”
It’s so random because she has been saying this about almost every person I invite for a trial, when I know that’s totally so far fetched. Apparently it has happened to her in the past so now she can’t trust anyone, but as I’m the one recruiting, I’m starting to feel very discouraged. It’s at the point I am scared to even ask someone in for a trial bc I know I’m going to get questioned/ told how untrustworthy this applicant seems to be.
What should I do? How can I politely tell my boss I don’t want to help with recruitment anymore. I feel this is so toxic!!!!
