wanted to vent a bit about a situation at work and figured this was the right place lol
i have been working at a retail store for a year now. i consistently show up early to shifts, work through my breaks(i rarely if ever take a break so i can finish all of my work), i’ve been one of the only people working on trucks with 800+ boxes. i never call off unless i’m really sick and in the last year i only had to leave early once or twice because of an appointment.
so, generally, i’m putting in a lot more work than most of my coworkers while also being a full time college student. the store is pretty understaffed though, since i’ve been here i’ve seen more people leave than come in, but everywhere i’ve worked has been understaffed to be honest
anyway, i got tickets for a concert a few hours away from my house. i haven’t been to a concert in years and it’s one of my favorite bands, so i’m really excited. i said i needed off the day after since the concert will end after midnight; i have to travel a few hours to get home, struggle to sleep (i have a sleep disorder), and my shift starts at 6. my manager said it was no problem, but today she called and said i need to go in that morning since nobody else could show up.
i think i’m still going to go to the concert and just truck through my shift but i’m really upset about how this played out 🙁 i know it’s standard to give over a month’s notice for missing a day but the tickets were a surprise gift that i got less than two weeks ago. this all might sound petty? or dumb? but i’m pissed with the manager regardless
