I was recently offered a job and had to do a pass background check to officially be given the job. This is not a problem, I’ve done many background checks in the past, I am not hiding anything. Yesterday, I received a copy of the background check and several flags came up. First, according to the background check, I did not graduate. However, I did graduate a couple months ago. Second, I mistakenly put that I worked at a previous employer for a few years longer than it actually was. The report came back that I stated I was there from 2019-2022. However I was not there that long. During 2022 I was working at my school while I was working on my degree. This job I had during 2022 checks out fine. Another flag I noticed on the background check is that none of the supervisors I used as…

Hours worked- travelling
Hi all, i don’t really no where else to post this. From november 2020 to august 2022 i was working for a landscape gardener in my local town, I needed the job so put up with more than i should have, i was paid £7 an hour or so. For all of those 2 years i was only ever paid for the time i was physically doing work, not travelling inbetween gardens to mow or building a fence etc. My boss was a complete narcissist and it made me feel like i couldn’t physically leave the job leading me to revert back down the black hole that is depression and i tried to OD. My boss didn’t believe me but after my parents found out i insisted i wanted to leave the job but they didn’t know the truth about how bad my boss really was. I ended up saying…
I guess this is the opposite of antiwork?
Being on call is horrible sometimes.
I work for a hydraulic hose/parts company. We take turns being on call for a few select customers. If called in (randomly, could be 3AM) we are given 2 hours OT. That’s for going to shop, helping customer with parts and going home. Also get 130 bucks to have the on call for the week/weekend. Yeah it’s almost not worth it. This customer told me yesterday, he’d need me today sometime. Probably around 11. At 11:30 he texted telling me it’s delayed but still today at some point. So now I can’t do anything at all with my day, waiting for the phone to ring, and will only get paid 2 hrs OT. When applying for a job that has call-outs, make sure it’s worth your time guys.
i had surgery scheduled for 4/20, and i was a manager at a vape store that i absolutely loved. i have asd and ADHD, which impacts my time perception among other things. i was employed for 9ish months, and came in late 3 times. the first time i was given a write up, but nothing for the subsequent times. my employer knew about my disabilities, but never even discussed accomodations with me. when i was there, i worked HARD because i had a lot of pride in that store, and they knew that. despite that, i was never asked what was causing the random lateness, they never offered to work w me or anything. they knew well in advance i had surgery on 4/20, and on 4/16 i was fired on the spot, mid shift. no write ups, no nothing. i was devastated and heart broken. since surgery, ive been…
Should I call OSHA?
So I’m going to try and keep who I work for hidden for now but long story short it’s retail. We sell a variety of stuff but it’s not a big store either, we carry frozen foods, dairy, cool drinks including alcoholic beverages. I’m in charge of this particular location and the occasional coolers going down isn’t unheard of especially during the hot months. One went down recently that holds beer, doesn’t really hurt anything since they’re not super perishable. We had a maintenance man come out and look at it and he told me that the compressor burnt out because it was sharing the same outlet as another cooler putting both of them on the same breaker not rated for that much power draw. These coolers in particular were installed about 3 or 4 years ago. I’ve been here 6 but I was unaware of any shady electrical issues.…
Causing damage at work
I work at a motorcycle dealer / shop and I accidentally dropped a bike and cause $500 of damage. They tried to make me pay for the damage but I didn’t and never will. Is it legal for them to take money off my pay or make me pay for the damage? Also trying to save the bike I fucked up my back pretty good. Also that 500 $ is half my pay cheque 🤣
Service workers just don’t smile anymore
Two guys walking down my street; one is going off about some girl “she’s nice…. She just doesn’t smile” My ears perk up “HAVENT you noticed the service industry has really gone down since Covid?! Bartenders, waitresses (not waiters.. but that’s another sub).. they don’t smile anymore” They were out of earshot but man I wanted to shout “you’d be prettier if YOU smiled asshole” Just THINK for one second, dude. People in general have had serious mood shifts since Covid, and always have treated service workers like a different caste, and now they’re working skeleton crews and all that, struggling… But no, she doesn’t smile anymore for you, 🙁 sad sad sad. I need service, not a smile. The guys friend didn’t seem to want to engage.
This tire shop basically has 3 tiers of workers: Lube tech: do oil changes & tires, other basic stuff Alignment tech: all previous + alignments Mechanic: all previous + brake and suspension work I was hired 7 months ago as a basic lube tech, and for the first 2 months I was just doing oil changes and tires. We had 3 alignment techs at the time. Within the first 2 months, 2 of them were transferred to other stores, leaving only 1 left. One day, she was busy doing some not-alignment thing, and everyone was rushing her because a customer was in queue for an alignment and getting impatient (as customers do). So I made the mistake of stepping in and doing it myself. I had no idea what I was doing, but the alignment tech was being attacked from all angles and I figured I'd help her out. I…
The owner of my company has a policy of making sure the grass isn't greener on the other side by making it as green as possible here. (Those are his words) He pays them the most in our industry, refuses to fire anyone unless he absolutely has to, and provides all sorts of benefits and perks to the employees. As a result, our company is doing very well. We made $12 Million in revenue last year, and just recently broke $12M for this year already. If anyone would like to fact check, DM me and I will tell you the company I work for. The reason I post this is for any managers or owners lerking here. Treating your employees like shit is bad business practice. Edit: Because I was asked, we do allow work from home. It's not preferred as our work requires us to physically be there. However…
