Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about the idea of “working smarter, not harder” and why it doesn't quite add up for me. Sure, efficiency and productivity are important, but at the end of the day, work is still work. And the more we prioritize work above all else, the more we perpetuate a system that values profit over people. When we buy into the idea of working smarter, we're essentially saying that the solution to our problems is to work harder and faster, rather than questioning why we're working so much in the first place. We're telling ourselves that if we just put in a little more effort, we'll be able to achieve our goals and find fulfillment. But the truth is, the system is designed to keep us in a constant state of overwork and burnout. That's why I'm a firm believer in the antiwork movement. We…

I’m over this job
I’ve been with this company for five years. In these five years I have had seven different district managers all of them with different rules in regards to paid time off and sick leave. My most recent district manager left last week and the interim district manager that I have has told me that I can’t use my PTO to pad my paycheck. I had been putting it in on days that I had off and no more than eight hours day. He says that his concern is that I will run out and it won’t be there when I need it. This is how I need it. I can’t afford to take a vacation because you haven’t given me a raise in five years. No other manager has cared that I have done this because it’s my paid time off and I can use it as I see fit.…
Their idea of work is bullshit. What the media and 1% call “work” is the mythology of misery. Most people want to do labor, the supposed “problem” is that people want to own their labor. People want to create and help each other. The laborer is undervalued and scrutinized. To the elite, most labor cannot be called “work” because they've made the mythology of work into the mythology of pain. Yesterday I started learning OpenGL because I want to learn how to code games. I will never get a job 3D modeling though. Artists are paid shit after meeting absurd requirements because “they have a passion for it.” Which is an excuse to pay artists less after they spend years learning their craft. Today I went to a bakery and got 4 garbage bags full of various breads to give to our city's homeless population. I want to feed and…
This is what union busting looks like
15 min breaks are a privilege
My boss thinks he is being clever whenever I need to take a 15 minute break, which is extremely rare. We work in a very fast-paced customer service oriented environment. We are perpetually short staffed since the job is so shitty people don't stick around long. Nobody, and I mean nobody, that I work with ever takes their 15 minute breaks but I have recently realized that since I can't sit down to rest my back on the job, then I am going to take the 15 minutes I am legally owed. When I respectfully let him know that i will need a 15 minute break and ask if let me know when would be most convenient, his response is always the same…”I wish I could take breaks” I am not good at being tactful, so I could use some help with some clever and accurate responses so I can…
I have schizophrenia. I've had to fight tooth and nail ever since I was diagnosed, to simply have employment. This is the second employer I've had who is so scared of “setting a precedent” that they flat out deny doing a reasonable accommodation. What should I do?
